1991 - 1999 (E36) (1991 - 1999) The first modern 3 Series, the E36, was the model that paved the way for the 3 Series to be named "Car of the Year" every year since the model was driving off showroom floors. Radically redesigned in 1992, the E36 was not the same 3 Series as the E21 and E30. Larger, less boxy in design, and equipped with a dual overhead cam engine, multilink rear suspension, and a more finished interior, the E36 balances sport with luxury.

M52B28TU- Did America use cast iron or aluminum?

On wikipedia (yeah not the best place but w.e) they say that all M52B28's in America including the TU's used cast iron, is this correct? I was reading a thread and some guy from IL was talking about how he had just worked with an aluminum block M52B28TU and after it overheated it lost most of it's durability or something along those lines? Like the threads on the head studs had weakened etc.
M52B28- cast iron block and sleeves?
M52B28TU America- aluminum block w cast iron sleeves?
M52B28TU World- aluminum block and sleeves?

e36 cars with teh 2.8 got iron blocks, where as e36/7 and e36/8 (z3 roadster and coupe respectively) 2.8 cars got the aluminum block.

My Canada '98 328i has a cast iron block. Unless aluminum rusts.

Okay thanks, last question, is the m52b28tu from the US better to have than the older one with only single vanos for a turbo application? Thanks again,

Harris.
