Misfire Cylinder 4 With Fuel Cut-off

hello , recently i started getting a code error, (P1349) which is Misfire Cylinder 4 With Fuel Cut-off, so i did a run with my OBD2 unit hooked up while monitoring Fuel system 1 and 2 and i got this error while the time of my MIL light was flashing . "OL-Fault: Open loop due to detected system fault." this was the only thing that had changed during the run. oxygen sensors are OK. and i recently had the spark plugs changed. does this code mean anything other that the fuel was cut off or is there something bigger? also what else could be causeing fuel to be cut off for only one cylinder? thanks.

I had a cyl 5 misfire this weekend, I moved the ignition coil from 5 to 6 and the problem moved with it, so I assumed the coil is bad and ordered a new one. *crosses fingers this fixes it*

That being said, i dont know what a MIL light is, but moving coils is pretty easy, might be worth a shot.

"...with cylinder cut-off" means the DME has ceased to fire the fuel injector, because the fuel is not being ignited.

Swap out cylinders 3 and 4. Clear your codes, and see if they move to cylinder 3. If so, replace the ignition coil.

If the codes do not move to cylinder 3, you need to diagnose why ignition coil 4 is not firing (wiring, spark plug, no compression, etc).

If swapping coils doesn't move fault to another cylinder, try cleaning your MAF with CRC MAF cleaner. It will only set you back $5.

Here are some Canadian prices: (I assumed 99 540, since you didn't mention the year)
    autopartsway.ca $69-$105
    bimmerspecialist.com $66 -$74

I believe if you are standing at the front bumper looking at the engine starting on your left the cylinder 1 is the closest to you and 4 is in the back at the firewall. Then 5 is on the right closest to you and 8 is at the firewall.

If you are going to move the coil from 4 to 3 then move the plug to 2 and see if the misfire follows. If you can move the injector you should because if it stays in that cylinder you will probably end up doing that next along with a compression test.

In any event I would pour a bottle of Techron into the gas tank...that's what cured mine. In hindsight I should have tried that first.
