E30 without rain gutters?

I got a picture from someone inquiring about a roof rack I had. The person wanted to know how to mount the rack, because he/she doesn't have rain gutters. Is this common? Maybe I just haven't payed enough attention and this is normal for certain years?

Unless its a convertible, I don't think they would be any different throughout the models

Its a 91 318is. That would probably explain it, though its still strange.

lol. Yeah I was going to say, a lot of people just don't know what rain gutters are supposed to look like. Before I got a rack for my iX, I didn't really even know that cars had rain gutters. They are very subtle in some ways.

Those look too close to the roof to be rain gutters though. Mine have a decent gap between the rail and the roof. That car, to me, looks like its flush to the roof.

They shouldn't be flat, it might just be hard to tell from the picture. I have never seen an early or late model e30 w/o rain gutters.

Naww the rain gutter rack will fit on that.

Heck, my E34 doesn't appear to have protruding rain gutters either but it takes the same racks as an E30. You'd never guess that by looking at it though.
