1987 - 1991 M3 (E30) (1987 - 1991) The E30 M3 was developed by BMW M division to be an upgrade from the E30 3 Series. Using a S14 four-cylinder powerplant (upgraded from the M10) the car was known to be quite powerful and nimble for its time.

Question Recommended diff for E30 M3 w/ M50 swap

My E30 M3 w/ a M50 swap should be coming back from the paint shop next weekend and will be real close to being back on the road. Getting down to the nitty gritty now.

The car still has the stock 410 diff in the rear. Trying to find the best matching diff to go along with the M50 six cyl. The car will be used as a daily driver first, but will also see some time on Track Days and Auto-X if all goes well.

My main concern with the 410 is going to be on the highway. I like the "peppiness" of the 410, but I am not sure how tall 5th gear is. I don't want to be cruising down Interstate 40 at 4500 RPMs at 70 mph. Not to mention the MPGs. I am not sure how tall 5th gear is though. I Also need a LSD for those track days and Auto-Xs as well.

Any suggestions?

I'm running a 3.73 and I like it. It does good on the freeway and serves my cammed S52 well on the streets.
