Z3 (E36/7, E36/8) (1996 - 2002) In 1996 BMW added the Z3 to the lineup. First available only with the 1.9 liter engine, the Z3 went on to carry every 6 cylinder produced between 1996 and 2002. A fun, sporty little 2 seater came both in convertible and coupe form. Being a bit of a “parts bin” car, the Z3 is part E30, part E36, but all original.

Is that a Smart Car? M Coupe

I am constantly amazed at the comments/descriptors/questions I get when I pull over and get out of my M Coupe...Just last night overheard an older couple asking each other if my M Coupe was a Smart Car....I was ready to say yes and a smart owner too....But not wanting to be a smart a$$, I kept my mouth shut....

I am curious as to other's reactions to the car and would like to possibly see a poll conducted...Sorry to be sexist, but what I think is an unique body-style sports car, is constantly referred to by women as "cute", "darling" or "pretty"...I was hoping for adjectives like "fast", "sleek", or even "naughty"... ; )

How about it some of you M Coupe folks, do you experience the same comments?

Yep... I've heared the smart car once before. 'Cute' is the only compliment women here seem to come up with.

Tyically, more negative comments from men than positive ones. Ie, it's ugly, or I must be gay! Friendly bunch around here.

Somebody asked me if it was an M1, another asked me "how I like my M3?".

The M badge throws people off a lot of the time. They think it's an M3... and then they see the lack of rear seats and they're like wtf?

I've had people ask me "where did you buy the M badge?"

I had one guy asking me if that was a new M1 (it was like couple months ago, come on - new M1? Really?). A cop that stopped me for speeding put 2dr M3 on a ticket. What a dumbass.

Wow, How would anybody confuse a smart car with ANY other car, they're retarded. I'd say no, it gets 1/3 th gas mileage so it must be pretty f***king stupid

I've had tons of m3 comments. My favorite was one of my friends friends who said "thats a z3m3?".

edit: realized this was only for coupes...sorry

i know im not a coupe, but im chiming in about the smart car comment. i also had some old people ask me if my roady was a smart car.

as far as being a girl car or w.e, the coupe looks a lot more of a mans car than the roadster

and finally, thats messed about the cop calling it an m3....what does it say on the registration?

I tell them it came with the car, a German interpretation of the Cobra once made by BMW. Heck, they only built 690 of em. It may be ugly but it sure is special. The wifes first words upon her first look at the Coupe, "that is cute and its really small". At least I think she was referring to the car.

Don't know, he only asked for my DL and insurance. On my insurance card (Farmers) it just says "BMW other, 2DR" because they had no M Coupe in the database!

Yesterday an attractive redhead coed yelled "Nice car" from across the street. And I'm shallow enough to admit, she made my day.

Some people are just not observant. They see the BMW badge and it doesn't register. These are the same lazy minded people that thought my uncle's Porsche 911SC was a Toyota. Years ago my dad had a 1913 Cadillac. The grill had a huge Cadillac script on it. The spare tire hung on the back had "1913 Cadillac" sewn on it. The license plate was "13 CAD". I can't count the number of people that aksed "What is it?" or "Is this a Model T"? Morons.

At least you coupe guys don't get the "Nice Miata"

Yeah I've had at least three people ask if it was an M3. They're really not that far off since the car's a Z3, so it's understandable.

One of my friends recently saw the car for first time and asked if it was an alternative fuel vehicle. First time I'd had that (obviously she's not into cars).
