Cold start question

Hey all its been a few years since I have posted on here. So the M3 usually gets taken out of the garage once every two weeks on the nice days and lately when I do the first initial start it does not fire it just will sit there cranking but then the second time it fires up like a champ and will be fine all day long! Everything is charging right lights come on radio works and I can hear the fuel pump prime up and everything. Now I had this same issue with my 328is awhile back and I was told it was the boots from the coils that go to the spark plugs and i did that and if I remember right it never worked out heh I think i just gave up and put up with it till it was sold. Thanks for your time

Next time you try to start after an extended break, try turning the key to 2, and allow the fuel pump to prime itself.

After a few seconds, turn to 3 to engage starter. I'm thinking your system is losing pressure over time and needs to re-prime.

I think you hit that one right on the head.

My M sits for a few weeks at a time when I drive my pickup. If the first time... I jump right in and try to fire it up (e.g. Key to 2 pos. and immediately to 3) the car will crank but not start until I release it and try again.

After prolonged breaks...If I place the key place to 2, wait 10 seconds, than proceed to start, the car fires right up.

Hope this helps,
M
