1991 - 1999 (E36) (1991 - 1999) The first modern 3 Series, the E36, was the model that paved the way for the 3 Series to be named "Car of the Year" every year since the model was driving off showroom floors. Radically redesigned in 1992, the E36 was not the same 3 Series as the E21 and E30. Larger, less boxy in design, and equipped with a dual overhead cam engine, multilink rear suspension, and a more finished interior, the E36 balances sport with luxury.

94 Coupe dr. window goes down no up

I replaced my window motor from a junker 94 vert. coupe
I tested it out before i made the switch and it worked fine. up and down.

After I installed everything it would inch down but no up at all.

Thinking my 94 might possibly have the comfort relay i pulled it and i have an orange relay not blue. It has discoloring from heat on the tabs. Ill clean them an reinstall.

Thinking its the switch... but when i push up i hear the motor click and... it worked before i put the regulator on.

what now?

Edit: Cleaning the relay didnt help.

passenger window works fine. no problems at all.

When i pulled the regulator back off. It took a few cycles but it would go up and down completely.
I then tried to install the reg. noticed my arms were not in the correct position...
it started acting up again. no up, down only.
I just found the window reset procedure so i will try that next.

did the install /remove regulator dance about 4 more times.

Its curing now w/ some 4min JB weld. In the clutch assembly. The junk yard motor eventually tore the rubber clutch.

Wish I could help, I am having an issue with my driverside window motor, I recently replaced the door on my vehicle and kept the motor from the new door which worked fine. Now it won't got down, I can hear the motor whiz but it doesn't move the window. Hope someone can help with your issue.

Thanks, yours sounds like the JB weld fix will work.
My new/old motor just spun , its working now, but not 100%.
I tried rolling it up and it did the safety feature thing and stopped. Took a few seconds then i just went back up. IDK its gonna take a few days for me to get the bugs out.

Who-ever decided to put the the window motor screws on the wrong side should be shot!

window motors usually have(and yours should, my 4 door does at least) a circuit breaker built into them, and usually thats what goes out or at least gets weak. unfortunately ive never seen one thats able to be replaced seperately of the motor, guess that would make too much sense huh . not there to see but sounds like thats whats happening- you use the window a little, the circuit breaker overheats and breaks contact, then when it cools you can use it till it heats and breaks contact again. it usually happens faster going up because of more mechanical resistance(gravity working against, not helping) causing the motor to pull more current/amps which equals more more heat which trips the breaker faster. just a thought though, could be a bunch of other things.
