8 Series (E31) (1991 - 1997) As the last E24 rolled off the production line in 1989, its replacement was quick on its heels to fulfill the fantasies of those looking for a touring coupe with all of the luxury, performance, and prestige of a BMW, only now with both 8 and 12 cylinder engines.

Mold !!!!! WTF

Today I went to my garage to move my beloved 850 so a friend can use the garage space.
The car has been parked for two months inside this garage with the windows open.

I notice som weird white fluffy spots on my steeringwheel.... a closer look and it looks like the white cousin og the green one you find on old food....
A closer check of the rest of the car revelas thet there is mold on the center console, some of the carpets and on some on the leather.

I get a wet rag and wash what I can find away, fortunately it's the fluffy white stuff that comes off real easy.
But I guess I need to do a thorough interior cleaning very soon.
Also think that an ozone treatment to kill anything in the car now is in order too.

Closed the windows and got this thing to remove moist put in the car for now....... but I guess I have a job to do.

Definitely get one of those AirCon Bacteria cleaners in there ASAP. Mold is rather bad for your health. Look up Legionaries Disease!

I looked at an 8 that had been parked under a tree (untouched for 9mths) and had a broken rear window seal. Everything and I mean everything in it was covered in green mold.

Well... Guess I need to pull most of the interior out.... hope I dont need to pull out the carpet......

looked like it was only the parts where you have your fingers that had mold on them, and some around some of the dirt that was on the carpets.

But I guess the seats and the side panels have to come out to be checked/cleaned.

Filters needed to be changed anyway.... pulling the interior out and using a carpet cleaner will do the trick.... then an ozone treatment at a detailer.

Yes i know it's bad for my health.... guess I'll get on it this weekend.

Fortunately it was not much..... just glad I found it now.

A trip in the South-Western US would cure that thing. Too bad you live in Norway, it would be a good excuse for vacation.

I just checked with a detailing company.... they are going to take care of it.

first a wet interior cleaning, then left to dry for a few days before it is gassed with Ozone to kill off any spores and bacteria.

As soon as I get my EML and DME's back from the US I will give them the car.

Was going to suggest an Ozone treatment. That will take care of it. Be sure to ask how many Mg's of OZone they're pumping and for how long. 6,000 (+) will kill EVERYTHING in a car

Be careful with the "wet" cleaning at the detail shop. DO NOT soak the carpets. There are many modules at floor level that will take water.

I think they will use a normal carpet cleaner, or a steam thing.
Fortunately they knew better than doing that to the ceilingliner..... I asked

I don't think they will soak the crpets, but they will be wet when done.

These guys are pro's, and have a good rep in the local car enthusiast community, so I think Ican trust them with my 8.

um. No. I would bet the your 8 is the first one they will have cleaned. You had better reinforce the idea that they CANNOT soak the floor and vacuum it up.

They do that and there is a good chance you may have a salvaged car.

You better make sure they understand that 50% of this cars electrical is under there.
