Z3 (E36/7, E36/8) (1996 - 2002) In 1996 BMW added the Z3 to the lineup. First available only with the 1.9 liter engine, the Z3 went on to carry every 6 cylinder produced between 1996 and 2002. A fun, sporty little 2 seater came both in convertible and coupe form. Being a bit of a “parts bin” car, the Z3 is part E30, part E36, but all original.

Unhappy Getting ready for Fall / HVAC base plate woes...

So I've been thinking that with the cooler weather coming to Georgia, I should run through the HVAC system and make sure the heat still works.

Nope.

I must have broken the little pin that runs in the nautilus cam on the back of the HVAC base plate while replacing the burned out light bulbs (sorry for the run-on)

Short of buying a replacement base plate ($250+), I'm wondering if there's a DIY fix for this problem. Has anyone worked through this? I've searched, but bowden cables seem to be the more common problem.

Thanks
Marshall

I repaired mine by replacing the broken pin with small size #2 round headed sheet metal or wood screw. Just don't force it when adjusting the temperature control if your cable is jamming. It has been working for one season so far!

So you positioned the screw head to ride in the nautilus? Or the other way around?

Thanks,
Marshall
