Anyone have/had any problems regarding rotation on Nittos NT01? My tires are only two track days old, never rotated/flipped/etc, and one shows signs of separating at the thread, or something along those lines. I've only seen this happen on full-on race slicks that were directional; I looked all over the tire looking for any markings, but I don't think the Nittos are directional...? Thoughts, opinions, comments, suggestions, etc appreciated. Thanks!
I would retire that tire immediately.
NT-01s are not directional, but are asymmetric (obviously).
Did you have an off track excursion? Looks like you went sliding over something sideways. If not, deffinitely weird wear. Try contacting Nitto about that if you didn't have anything "Bad" happen.

This is probably what you're experiencing, tread splicing:

yup. Move that wheel to the other side of the car and the
splice should close up again.
I did.
I had a v710 looked like that. I put it on the other side and it closed up.The OP's picture looks like a tearing splice. I wouldn't use the tire anymore.
I guess it'd be safer to do this on an undriven wheel, because the undriven wheels only ever see torque in the one direction. Mine was a front wheel - all the braking..
I've been using NT01's since they came out, have always switched direction to prolong life, run them to the cord, and never had a problem. I know others who do the same as well, so at least it's probably not common.

USTCC has some pretty powerful FWD cars (300hp & heavy) - I've seen some pretty darn boiled NT01s, but haven't seen that happen before.
Had a similar issue with mine, although I think it was from a large pothole
Hi all, I ended up rotating it over to the opposite side of the car. I did an AutoX this past Sunday and the line hasn't grown at all, so I will monitor it at the car's next track day sometime in two weeks at Mosport. I think it shouldn't be a problem however. Thanks again for everyone's input.
Has anyone tried / had success w/ flipping these on the rim, i.e run the two grooves on the outside of the tread? I'm to the point where the tread surface is pretty much slick except for the 2 grooves and would like to get some extra life by using the inside shoulders.
Yes, you can flip them. They work fine.
