Pictures from our Sunday mini-meet

Well the first meet was pretty good considering the weather wasn't the best. Out of the 6 Vancity members I have made contact with, 4 could make it. It was nice to meet Rod (skylinegtr), Art (nuts4bmw), and Jeff (jac1d). Helga was the lone straight six, narrow grill beauty of the 4, but she held her own. It was nice to finally meet guys that are into these cars as much as I am. All the cars were in pretty damn good shape (when your only problems are twisted seats, and which speakers to get, or that you don't get to drive your e34 as much).

Art actually gave us a little treat by bringing out his 540i M-sport, 1 of 32 Canadian Models. To boot, he even let me take it for a spin, as I let him take Helga for one. It was the first V8 I have ever driven in these cars and I was surprised by how much more refined it was then my 535i. It put more power down smoothly, and more quitely. Thanks again, Art.

Rod actually had the cleanest example out of all of ours, but since its a 530i we didn't really recognize it as a legitimate example of an e34.

And Jeff, well....he had a 4-year old son. j/k. Actually, you can tell that the man behind the 10 page e34 PPI is really fussy about his cars and he pays a LOT of attention to detail. His 540i was really clean as well.

Hopefully we can get more guys to come out next time. Enjoy the pics guys.

Helga on the left (obviously), Jeff's car on the right

Rod's car on the left, Art's car on the right

see, what you don't get is that the 530i is rarely driven due to a love/hate relationship we have with our models... hence, they are less likely to be abused, or actually, used in general and are preserved much more easily...

oh, and which one of you arrived on the flatbed?

Ahaha great logic. So by the same path the M20 will have the fewest rock chips? Since it is driven the slowest

Much less abused because you hate driving them so much so you don't, or much less abused because you love them?

The flatbed is my weekend fun car. I drive around back alleys and offer little to no cash to people in exchange for their old cars, which I then sell to scrapyards for a windfall profit. Somebody's gotta do it.

ahahahah, I wish

I dealt with a guy that does that though. You could make some money doing it. Part out what you can, and then get the money for the scrap metal.

Had a friend whos father was in to the scrap metal thing. Trolling highways looking for scrap metal, jumping out at intersection to grab bumpers and things, etc etc. He also was a total loon and kept his money buried in the back yard. But he had quite a bit of it...

Just wondered. I wear sandals every day of the year unless its rain/snow/work and those were the best I've ever had. Haven't been able to find any for a couple years now.

I really don't understand why you would want to go from a 3.0 liter V8 to a 2.5 liter L6 unless there are serious mechanical problems with your car.

The 3.0 liter V8 seems to be a perfectly reliable motor to me and it hels it's own on our little outing yesterday on the highway.

Peteshelga 3.5 liter L6 has a really nice growl to it and my 4.0 V8 and the 3.0 liter V8 are let me say more civilized but certainly not lacking as far as I can tell.

Someone please enlighten me what all fuss is about re. the 3.0 V8.

Yeah I don't get it either. I would have bought the right well maintained 530i as well. Other than razzing the 530i owners, I don't see what the issue is.

For that matter, while I like my 4.0 V8, I'm equally as impressed with my wife's M50 in her 525i. It is so silky smooth and pulls really nicely and it is easier on gas. I wouldn't be unhappy with that motor either.

Horsepower is only one metric, overall quality of the car and the balance and interaction of the complete package are really key. I'd take a clean, well maintained 530i where everything is fresh over poor maintained 525i with worn out suspension etc. Just sayin'

^ the throttle response is a little laggy so it seems take care of some mainentance, make sure it's in tune and its fine. A few mods dont hurt i have a intake and that helped. Its a matter of preference.

Since you brought it up, I wonder if the others work? Mine are one of the few things that aren't operable on the car but I just can't be bothered to look in to why.

Aren't headlight washers stock on the E34?

-Jeff

PS - Next time turn on your headlights and fogs boys! Have you learned nothing about taking photos of cars while you've been on bf.c? Hell Denton makes a compelling case for turning on interior lights too!

Ha, thanks. Credit MacR for that one...he knows his way around a camera.

Re: Headlight washers, they are stock on Canadian E34s. Optional in Europe and not available in U.S.

Jeff, nice to see that yours has the stock staggered Style 5s.

Amen. I like my little b30. Sure more power would be nice but an e34 is not a race car. My B30 is in very good working order, and with the modifications its not a slug at high rpms. The only drawback is the auto.

thanks. I'm on the prowl for a ACS front valence. I really liked the bumper on Art's M540i but impossible to find used and extremely expensive to get new.
