evosport - Trio of e46 M3 Track Cars In Process...

I know that the forums have been a little slow with the economy the way it is, so I wanted to post what we have been up to. Luckily, we have been slammed all year - especially with track prep work.

I have three cars that we are in process with right now, in various stages. One is just starting the cage, one is roughly half-way done and one is just back from paint!

Car 1: Topaz Blue, evosport/VF stage 4 S/C motor, will be ultra-light with lots of aero. This car is also sporting one of the two sets of Ohlins that TMS was liquidating from their GrandAm cars.

Car 2: Black/Black, AA stage 2 S/C motor, will also be ultra-light. Car started as a pretty sick street car, now stripping it for track use.

Car 3: This car is part of a feature series that can be seen in European Car magazine. We are building this car for professional skater Rune Glifberg. He wanted something that had "pop" so he chose Porsche GT3RS orange for the cage and wheels. Cannot say too much more, but look for the article, the first part should be out next issue.

Please feel free to ask any questions! Just thought this would be a fun thread!

    thanks

Why did you leave the sound tar in Rune's car? I see it on the trans tunnel and rear wheel arches. Or is it more difficult to remove in an E46?

Cost v. benefit analysis. It costs a LOT to get that all out. And depending on what class you are going to run in, you will most likle have to add ballast. So I recommend not spending the money on taking that OE sound deadening out then spending more money on ballast. The sound deadening is already at the lowest spot on the chassis and spread evenly. So unless you have an unlimited budget and/or racing in a "mod" class - I don't recommend doing it.

Really? Maybe it's on there way better than it other cars, but that tar stuff comes out pretty easily with about $20 of dry ice and a rubber mallet. Spread it out and get to beating. Pick up the pieces after it's all said and done. Takes about 30-60 mins to get out most of it with the interior out like that.

Yea, someone told that to Rune. So he had two friends try. Well 8+ hours later and lots of supplies, and they got out about 10% of it! lol

It is not that easy in the e46 sadly!

That sucks, must have a better adhesive than most cars. My S13 was done in half a beer - easy 25 lbs. That looks like at least 30-40 lbs!

I instructed Rune in his M5 a year or two ago at an event at Streets. Cool that he's building a dedicated track car. Does he plan on racing it?

He is not sure yet, but I think he will. He is an adrenaline junkie after all! I don't think lapping will keep him entertained for long. It is hard to take a star athlete who is at the top of a super competitive sport and ask them to just lap.

BTW - he is skating this weekend in the X-Games here in SoCal for anyone that wants to support!

    thanks

Rune is going to need to wear sunglasses at night with that cage color being so bright.

I got the entire E46 de-tarred in about 4 hours. Respirator was needed, but mapp-gas, strong puddy knife, and some acetone in a spray bottle to clean up. Came out real nice, and had a 25-30lb garbage full at the end!

Ha, of course...if only I was a Rock Star I could have people do this work for me! Definitely had to wear a respirator and do this work outside, it was pretty toxic looking!
