| Z4 (E85, E86) (2003 - 2008) In 2003 the Z4 replaced the Z3. Meaner, edgier, and no longer a car born of spare parts, the Z4 took to the challenge of replacing the popular Z3 seriously. The shark like design, multi link rear suspension, and improved power makes the Z4 the new roadster to beat. In 2006 a coupe design was also introduced. |

Question Concerning Used Z4 Mileage
Hello All!
First time poster and maybe a soon-to-be Z4 owner. I have the opportunity to purchase a 2006 Z4 3.0i at what I believe to be a fair price. The car was a leased automobile that has recently been returned to the dealer. The car is flawless and will be CPOed by the dealer. My concern has to do with the mileage. Although it is a 2006, it only has 5700 miles on it. Should I be concerned with a 3 year car with so few miles? I am purchasing from an area that is a known as a "snow bird" location for those up north to come to during the winters. A lot of residents are only here part of the year, and I believe this vehicle was probably owned by a snowbird. In any event, I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks, Buck |

Some things that this level of really low mileage would cause me to to look at are the seals around the windows, the belts and the drains in the convertible top housing (assuming that it's a roadster). I live in SW Florida, which has a big "snowbird" population, and some friends of mine who use their Z4's maybe two or three months out of the year have had issues with these areas, all of which could be corrected, if need be, under warranty.
Enjoy your new Z4, you're gonna love it! |

If its CPOed, then you've got several years left on the warranty. They should take care of any cracks in belts and seals, etc. I'd just request that a full oil change be thrown in with the purchase; for peace of mind. 5,700 miles is pretty low, but its not completely unused. You'll find out within the first 5,000 miles about trouble spots.

A lot of Z4s (including mine) are purchased as sunny-day or weekend cars. If the car was from up North, then it was probably stored in the winter. Nothing at all unusual about your car's situation.
I assume you have had a chance to physically inspect it. Hopefully, the car has not had any accident damage or stored in the hot sun for weeks on end. |

When I purchased my car it was 4 years old and had 2900 miles on it. I don't know why someone would think that's especially unusual for (as someone notes above) a car that many people buy as a toy and only take it out on weekends or for special rides.
