Devastating crash in Everett.

My friend witnessed the whole accident happen. The blue Pontiac GTO appeared to be trying to beat the red light as the elderly woman in the Ford Taurus was turning left into the K-Mart parking lot. The impact split the Taurus in half in a fiery explosion. Workers at the nearby McDonald's and AM/PM rushed out with fire extinguishers. The two passengers in the Pontiac walked out fine, who by the way were father and son. The two elderly women were rushed to Harbor View.

Prayers go out to the two women.

I believe the GTO clipped the Taurus' rear end with caused the explosion of the gas tank, and the pole is what split the car in half. YIKES

That is amazing; the amount of momentum needed to shear the chassis in such a manner as that is quite impressive -- this will definitely something the authorities will have "fun" with.

It looks like the car splitting in half might have saved those woman from getting caught in an inferno. Only the back half looks burnt.

It's not going to be the guy I know then, as he is well into his 20's if not 30's. Good find 13th.

I'm surprised, I normally agree with most on the boards... And I make it a point never to argue with Mitchelrl.

I'm assuming that the Ford was was making an unprotected left turn. If the state can't prove the GTO ran the light, or negligent driving through speed, Ford's at fault.

Investigators and witnesses said he was speeding when he crashed into the Taurus.
Note that the news media dosen't cite the reference. Meaning at this point no one KNOWS how fast the GTO was going.

Quote:
"Cut a Ford Taurus in half! You kiddin' me?" says Antonio Cedillo, who witnessed the crash. "I mean he was going really fast. ... Must have been to cut a Taurus ... a huge car. There's no way, man. You have to go, like, really fast."
The words fail me. Antonio, enjoy your thirty seconds.

Quote:
The crash was caught on nearby surveillance cameras.
This might be the GTO's undoing. It's easy math to figure speed if you get 'good' footage.

Don't get caught up in the spin or the pictures. Let's get angry that another "elderly" lady not only cut off a car, but probably was afraid to push down on the accelerator and move her a$$ out of the way.

Be gentle; it's my first time wearing the Flame Suit.

Very sobering pictures. I would think the GTO has some sort of onboard "black box" that records all the vehicle parameters a minute or so prior to airbag deployment. Isn't that pretty common now? Speed, throttle position, etc. should tell the investigators a great deal.

Online check says "event data recorders" have been standard on all air bag equipped GM cars since 1999.

Those are in most cars but is ILLEGAL for use in such manner, Mercedes was sued for this to give up the data in a crash and won.

Can you imagine what a choke that would do to the legal system. Every car crash would be a law suit.

I was wondering about that. The police can't just come and take.
