Okay so I made the GPS mount mod that someone else posted a little more permanent. The whole suction cup thing really sucks, and I hate stickin it to my window....so...
1) Gather tools and materials.
2) Remove trim and vent.
Remove trim starting with the passenger piece first, then on to the piece above the stereo.
Remove vent by popping out top first, then pushing it up and out. Nothing I can say will make this easier. It is a complete bitch.

3) Cut and shape your base
I used a sheet I bought at LOWES for about 8 bux. Made my design and cut it out to fit my base. Your base may vary, and your method of cutting may vary also. I used a dremel tool with the lil cutting wheels and it did a nice job..then I filed down the rough edges and performed final shaping with a file.
You will have to bend your piece to fit now, because if you wait until the leather is on...you will split/stretch the leather.
4) Wrap your base with leather.
I used an old leather jacket, that one of my kids had outgrown, and it matched perfect. Use the 3M 77 spray adhesive and attached the piece selected.
5) Its pretty much downhill from here, drill holes in your factory base and in the base you made, and attach all together with the hardware you choose. I used some brass cap screws to finish off the job...but am thinking I may go to black anodized....I dunno.

Thanks for posting, may try something like this, want to mount GPS and V1 in convertible such that I can easily detach and lock away when I am parked and top is down.

Looks clean, I still just deal with the suction cup tho. I don't leave the mount its self on the window when parked because there was a big thing over by my with peoples cars being broken into. The paper said don't even leave the suction cup mark on the glass because they will think its in the car.
