    How to shorten us bumper

hello to all i am new to this site, i found some great information and some nice rides so first off congrats. i just bought a 80 320i i hate the bench seat bumper, should i pop the thing off and bondo away, or is there a way to shorten the bumper to get that euro look without buying the euro bumper, i just figured i would get some info before jumping in and trying to wing it.

you can do either. i took mine off and bondoed it up, but all lot of guys here do the bumper tuck mod. you can search for it if you need a detailed write up. but it is pretty easy to figure out, just remove the bumper, drill a hole in the bumper shock until it pops and fluid comes out, then just hammer it in and it will stay tucked.

you can do what i did.

i did the bumper tuck, but it didn't push it in at all almost.

so then i removed the bumper. and i didn't like the look without one.

so i took the rubber bumpstrip off of the bumper, and put it on the car.

Get the brackets made by Ken Danielson...search the forums. They work really well.

Wow, I finally saw a picture of a shortened U.S. E21 front bumper. I've been wanting to do that to mine (front and rear) since I bought my car. Thanks for posting the link to Old Man's pics. Give me some inspiration. Now that my week long project with my '67 Beetle is complete, reckon I should start on the E21.

Old Man, did you use Ken's brackets? I'm guessing so... since your bumper is way closer to the body than mine is.

this is the link from the faq that drewdude posted. The forum in general needs to spend more time browsing the faq.

I do not think I started a thread for my bumper tuck, but I do have a web page for it. It is hard to go through one picture per page. I did my bumper tuck before Ken started selling his shock replacement pieces.

I used the bumper shocks - drained and then cut up and shortened my.
Shorted "U" mounts for the bumper then welded them back together
Cut half of the bumper depth off too.

    Link to web pages.

just drill a hole in the shocks and drain the oil from them.. make sure you put mask on your face cause oil will spray everywhere .. lol

and that is it.. push the bumper all the way to the inside..

from the other side you can buy the brakets from me.. $50 shipped. easy and fast swap..

Has anyone ever thought of drilling a small hole halfway through the shock then a larger 1/3" hole the rest of the way through so oil doesn't spray out as hard?

    No e30s, again :(
probably used the normal little platic things to attach it. if i remember right, you can slide them around on the back of that strip so i imagien you could just line them up wit the holes in the valance or drill some holes for it.
    No e30s again.
