2002 (1967 - 1977) The first modern BMW debuted at the Frankfurt auto show in 1961, and has people talking to this day. The philosophy of a sports car that is also practical was born in the 2002, and has carried on to its successor, the 3 Series.

02 - Jagoff

If you're not from Pittsburgh, the title of this thread might be confusing (or insulting). Google "Pittsburghese" for some more information, of just come to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix 17-19 July and we can talk about it with yinz. The only difference with the pronunciation of this car's name is the umlaut over the a. It brings the 'soft J'. yahgoff. Like jaegermeister.

Here we go: my dad and I started this project with a very solid '76 2002 from Craigslist in RI. Attached are some pics of the resto. A special thank you to all the help, here and from FAQ, the good people at Ireland, Parker, Roger's Tii, TEP, P&W BMW of Pittsburgh, Mark at Deer Lakes Autobody...I'm sure I'm forgetting somebody...oh yeah, Dad, thanks for putting in so many hours!

So the car was soda-blasted to bare metal, to get ready for it's new scheme: Polaris Neu. Keep it simple.

The TEP braces front and rear are Roundel Blue. My dad got to drive it home on Fathers day with no windshield, no rear glass, and only the IE stainless headers hung. Apparently very windy, and VERY VERY loud. Probably ruined someone else's Father's Day bbq, but I think it made his day.

We're almost there. Seats are in (Scat/Procar, with bolt-on brackets for the '02). Remaining activities are mostly interior details (console courtesy of Parker, and cut to fit 3x VDO gauges, and a Becker Europa), and wiring up the gauges. Need to realign/adjust the exaust a tad, as it rattles. But the IE Stainless kit is beautiful. Hope to have it all ready for the PVGP on 17-19 July. Hope to see some of you boys there. Thanks for reading, and again, for the help/tips along the way.

p.s. One of the most helpful among them are Keith's Tii photos and instructions on the sunroof prep and install!

Hey guys....if i buy a good decent shell, and strip it myself, and prep it all....what does it cost a decent shop to do a nice paint job for me?

I'm just curious, as I'm a former 02 owner thinking of starting a project in the next year or so....but I have no idea what to budget.

I'd just love to have the repainted shell in the garage, and then it's just fun with the nuts and bolts....right? hahahaha....

(I have NO IDEA what I'm getting myself into...no idea whatsoever....)

Very nice. It helps to have a solid car to start with. It's coming along great. Can't wait to see more pics.
