M62/S62 900HP Laminova cored aftercooler build.

Well Carmen's V7 Ysi aftercooler is all done and I have started work on a new project the M62/S62 intake manifold for some of my special treatment.

The intercooler will run 6 x 392mm 150hp Laminova cores, so all up good for up to 900HP of air flow, as for cooling abilities you will need to watch this space patiently

    The starting point.

It will replace the stock intake and bolt straight on, well that's the plan

This one will be under wraps for a while but I'm on it

    Tks,

First up will be the 500x330x50mm solid billet of Aluminum just to bolt the intake too for fabrication and assembly. That will be machine to suit the plastic manifolds bolt patten, basically a mock head to work on.

Is that an aftercooler or just a plenum?

Matt, I look forward to your AWESOME work!

I think the RMS one is juts a plenum? I don't see how it could fit cores too.

Both. It is an aftercooler and intake mani. with individual runners. My friend's 800 rwhp E39 M5 has one and my 4.9L M62 is next in line. Good luck, and mad props to your skills (quite impressive).

This one will suit the single throttle body for now rather than the individual set up and will be a straight swap for the original intake, pictured in the first post.

    Boost only.

Has anyone ever tested an RMS unit as to pre and post TEMP and MAP to see how efficient they are.

All our units are tested and data you will find here http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1238269

Very good point. In fact a single TB is preferred in this application. But the runners are intakes and not TB runners (you knew that).

    I knew that

No need to be sorry, both me and Andrew find it amusing that very few intercooler/aftercooler manufactures actually test there units for the 2 things that really count, TEMP & MAP pre and post. They all test flow for HP.

    Here's a peek so far.

Now for the intake rails and runner from the housing to the runners

The intake currently is equal to 2.85" I may play with this a little more to achieve the ideal 3" which it was originally. But lost a little to allow for the bolt holes and factory gasket at the top and bottom.

Popped in to BMW @ Doncaster here in Melbourne today and picked up two new genuine gaskets to check against the machining once completed.

    Question time

The back of the plenum has and orange rubber with a hole in it (see pic below), purpose?

Also two smaller outlets with yellow around them one is used and looks like a vacuum line would fit the other has a factory blank.

Coulpe of views of a segment of the intake close up where the injector will sit.

appears to be part of vacuum control system per realoem...

edit: btw, very impressive work. this will be very fun to watch unfold. wondering how much time you anticipate designing, building and testing this takes.
