    VIN decoder online

BMW - Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Decoder

BMW VIN-Decoder for all BMW Vehicles from 01/1928 to 02/2009
    (including: Motorcycles, Mini, Rolls Royce)
    Fahrgestellnummer/chassis no.: ..........
enter the last 7 digits of your chassis number and press Return

    http://www.bmwarchiv.de/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

Important: Make sure that the complete model, engine, month and year of production is shown in your avatar/profile, otherwise it is difficult to help.
Those data are a must when you want to have a detailed reply from some experts. Because they have to check the correct wiring diagrams and if those data are missing, you cannot expect a reply.

Often it is also important to mention the engine. For example a E32 730 could have a V8 M60B30 engine, or a
    M30B30 6-cylinder engine.

Automatic/manual? Of course that is also important. And if it is not U.S., spec., then mention that also, like U.K. right hand drive and so on.

So it could look like this:

    E32 730iA M60B60 12/91 U.K. spec.

then we know it is a V8 engine, built 12/91, RHD version, automatic transmission version, and on the U.K. version we cannot ask to make a stomp test, as that only works on U.S. spec./versions.

MAIN BATTERY SWITCH? >>>only for transport from factory to US dealer, then removed and returned to the factory.

Maybe the wiring up to the trunk. On my car the CD changer is under the parcel shelf in the trunk on the left side, but not sure how that was done in the US.
