This in regards to pretty much any e39, e46, e85, e53, e60, e83 I6 with blown valve cover gaskets, stalling issues, white smoke from exhaust, oil in the intake / throttle body, milky gunk under the oil cap... Just a whole host of issues. If your car has seen any sort of cold weather, mileage... It could be the oil separator valve failing. Please check / replace before thinking it's a sensor, head gasket, o2 's, MAF...

Got any questions about my car? Feel free to PM me!
Well maybe , just maybe, someone will read this who will benefit.
Wow!
Scary stuff!
Does this mean that any indy or BMW dealer is obligated to replace the CCV and hoses if complained about, for free?
Looking for an E39 belly pan , passenger front inner fender liner …
I'm very happy with my engine.

By the way those Dinan rims are nice.

Well, I have complained about my CCV three times already to my indy.
I am on my second CCV.
The dealer in Honolulu replaced it the first time, after I nagged them about it, and the dealer claimed they replaced it out of good will...
LOL!
However, the dealer only replaced the CCV, and NOT the associated hoses!
F'n idiots!
Hence, the reason my 2nd CCV is failing now.
I know it is failing, because my car is making the same hissing/ whistling sound when I hit the accelerator.
Not to mention, the constant rough start-ups, and lack of power.
My Disa Valve is also ticking like a son-of-B at start-ups.

Being in Maryland we see a variety of temps though out the year, so I ordered the " cold weather" ccv & hoses. They are the same parts as the originals just coated in a foam insulation. My point in this thread was to point out a potential un-recognized problem some owners were having. Two local dealers, and 2 indy shops never mentioned anything about a potential CCV problem with my car. Little less a TSB.
Some of the FI guys just eliminate the CCV , and put in a catch can. That's another story.
The new "insulated oil separator"
Hawaii? I thought you lived in Kansas.

Thanks Jackcat--good info--the cleaning of the dipstick guide tube opened my eyes--I had cleaned the sucker with brake cleaner when I had it off--but didn't think about what sludge could be in there and need to be scraped out of the tubeing--on that catch can idea--the oil would be needed to be drained off from time to time wouldn't it--but sounds like a good idea though--would be interested in locating one and hooking up to mine. Thanks again
