    My S54 Powered E30 M3

    firstly, hello

I have been reading a couple of s54 swapped threads on here for a little while. so i thought i'd join the site a put up a thread of my own s54 conversion.

these pics were taken a few weeks ago, and since these were taken, i've got the car running and it's almost ready for it's mot.
i'll take some over the weekend

i didn't go with the usual route of standalone or e46 dme,
instead i've used the euro s50b32 siemens mss50, with euro s50b32 engine harness. i also had to use a couple of s50 sensors.
i used this as it readily available here

    thanks.
no dyno figures as yet, as i only started it a few days ago. i will be taking it for a test drive shortly, as soon as i've finished the exhaust.

as for ews, it's easy to incorporate that system into the loom / harness.

throttle?.......if you look in the pics, you'll see i fabricated a cable throttle using parts of the s14 and s50.

sensors?........the main sensors i needed to change were the cam sensors. the s54 cam sensors are hall type, but the s50 ecu is set up for vr, so i used the vr sensors out of the s50, that way i can keep both the vanos units working.
the crank sensors on both engines are the same, (vr) so that was just a case of taking the crank sensor cable out of the injector conduit and re-routing it to the s54 crank sensor which is at the back of the block.

the coil packs i kept as s54 as they showed the same resistances as the s50, and the s54 's fit properly, but the injectors showed different readings / resistances, so i used the s50 injectors, obviously these will be optimised on the dyno.

I've been wondering for soo long why someone hasn't tried using euro e36 stuff on an s54. The motors are so similar i don't understand why it wouldn't work

I'm successfully running my M54 on a 413 OBD1 ECU with a standalone VANOS controller. I also have a Hall to VR signal converter (www.seattlecircuit.com) but it only works on 36 or 60 tooth wheels, it wouldn't work on the s54 cam wheel but I've thought about it. I've also heard that that VR sensor is a direct fit for the S54 Hall sensor.

I, too, would like to see more of a plug-n-play solution for the s54.

At least it's available for the M54 now...

    hello steve.
i sent you an email a few days ago, just to let you know i had got it going.
i managed to get the s50 vr sensors into the holes that the s54 hall sensors were removed from.
    thanks for your help steve.
after persevering with this project, it's eventually paid off with a sweet running s54.
also, a massive thanks for the help i received from ian haynes

    E36 S54 soon
Any Major modification needed for the cam sensors to be fitted to the sensor holes of S54 ?

did you replace the fuel pump on your E30 ?? what did you use ?
i think the fuel line on M3 S54 in one line not dual like the S50/S52 feed-return ?

have you used the stock fuel rail or the S50 ?

what part's did you used other than you mentioned ???

intreasted in doing the swap on my E36
