Ok so I have a 2002 525i with Business CD and I want to know if I can do the BMW aux audio port install? Ive read that it can only be done on 03+ BMWs and I have also read that people have done it on some 02 BMWs... If this is possible can someone point me to a write up about doing it on an 02? Thanks.

Check build date of your car - aux input instructions state that the kit works for cars 9/02 and later. Here are the installation instructions from BMW:

I can't believe I've had my 528iA sport 14 years and counting . . .
if it''s a 9/02 car that makes it MY 2003 so probably not, but check as MNsport suggests.
2001 Z3 3.0i -Oxford Green/Sandbeige
2016 428xi -Estoril Blue II/Black
2018 430iC- Estoril Blue II/Black
2018 330it - Melbourne Red/Venetian Beige/Black
the aux input work on everycar i have one on my 96.
the only thing is that you will lose the cd changer

The OEM kit only works with 9/02 and newer - but as xisco44 mentions there are other kits for aux input that use the CD changer connection (Blitzsafe, DICE and others). Hopefully you can use the OEM kit as it is only about $35 (P/N 82110149390), otherwise check DICE/Blitzsafe and there are others...

nope i use the oem kit on my 96 e39
is easy take out your head unit unplug the cd changer and plug the oem adapter.
now put a disc on the cd changer , so it fool the head unit that the radio is playing something voila.
aux in in your car.
if you want you can make your aux input adapter for like 5 dollars with radio shack parts.

My CD changer still works after the AUX install. Now, i've got the single Cd, the changer, radio, and AUX. They all work. I did make sure that mine was post 9/02 when i purchased though. maybe for pre-9/02's the aux will still work, but you lose the changer. I dunno.
OP, just purchase the OEM cable like Xisco and I did. $35, completely pnp. report back whether or not your changer works afterwards.
There is a way to hook it up to the casette. it "tricks" it. Here's the link...

you just need to get a 1/8 aux in female jack and a cable with ground + and - and check
for the ground positive and negative on your head unit.
this pic is the diagram of the aux in kit that bmw sell. you dont need to use the capacitors i use them on my car at the beginning but later on i rip them apart because of low bass.
}
thats my headunit
i did loose the cd changer but who cares
i make one of my own exactly the same as oem with capacitors and filters and everything.
later on i rip apart the capacitors cuz they were messing with the bass coming out of my ipod

Update: My cars build date is actually 11/01, so according to the stealership (which I talked to today) the oem aux input upgrade can only be installed on BMWs with build dates of 9/02 or later... However the parts guy also said that the reason it could not be installed on BMWs newer then 09/02 was because it could only be installed on the Business CD stereos. That said my car does have the Business CD player (it says "Business CD" on the CD player). So my question is was there a difference between the Business CD stereo in pre 9/02 models? Or are they the same and should have the same inputs? Also does anyone have a write up on how to remove the radio so I can just look to see if it has the proper input? Thanks.
dude if you have a cd changer you can put the aux in cable
go to google and search
if i did on my old 96 e39 you can do it on your 01 dont believe what the stealership tell you.
how to do the aux in cable
now get a pinout of your radio this the older one
your cd radio should have to conector on the back
on for your cd changer
and other one that have nothing plugged in.
if you only have one for the cd changer unplug the cd changer
and look for the pinout
right cd changer
left cd changer
and a ground
but first take your radio out and check if you have one or 2 input
you can check on youtube how to remove an e39 headunit
no rocket science you can do it in 5 min with a torx 10

Xisco, Thanks for the info. I don't have a CD changer just the single CD player in the dash... Does this all still apply? Also I heard a rummer that the Business CD player can play mp3s is this correct or is it only on later years? Thanks.
mp3 only from 9/2002 and up
you need to take the radio out and check how many input you have 1 or 2

Hello Xisco,

I have a picture if you want.
Do you know how that i can connect this at the back of my radio?
I will be very happy if you can help me.
Thank you.
