Team bimmerforums E30 section Lemons build

    More updates see last page!!

    Need Crew Volunteers!!!!

Kish and I along with a few other Monday night chat regulars have thrown around the idea of building a BF.c E30 section themed lemons car using an E30 of course.

Teams are limited to 6 drivers. Kish and I will be driving so there will be 4 spots available. Lemons does not require track experience to participate, but I think we will make it a prerequisite to join our team. There are lots of you out there with track experience Jim Levie, Ranger, Ddavidv..... We would have a real good chance of winning if A) the car makes it B) someone does not wreck us C) we avoid the peoples choice. We will also need crew!!!

I am going to donate my 87is parts car. All it needs is a 5spd swap, but if we can't get these parts very cheap we might have to find another car already equipped with a 5 speed!! Let me know what you have guys $500 tops.

The date for the event will be lemons South in the Fall. The event will be held at CMP September 12-13th.

Tim you need to fly over for this!!!!!!

Ohhhh myyy..... I've always wanted to try something like this out.
To be honest, I JUST read the thread, but my instincts tell me to jump on this opportunity. I dont have as many spare parts as I used to, but I've got the passion to help, the willingness to travel, a solid knowledge of e30's, and I've been an autocross junkie since I was 16 (5years now). Whatcha think? I should be attending my first batch of track day's this summer, so hopefully that prerequisite shouldn't be an issue.

I'll come and play. And I have a modest collection of spares (including a transmission, shifter, clutch, and other stuff).
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Modest, lol. This does sound like great fun, but it looks like I already have a ride for Sep CMP Lemons.

What is really needed is something cheaper than a $500 car to avoid BSF penalties. The ideal would be a $200-300 car that had a decent engine, but non-structural body damage. Looks don't count for LeMons, but reliability does. It would be better to have an ugly car with bent sheet metal and spend money on things that will improve reliability (cooling system, fuel system, etc) since the total cost of the (other than safety gear) has to be not more than $500.

Jim your probably right keep your eyes open for a good candidate and I will do the same. And you are officially on the team. Why would anyone go to lemons without you there to fix things and diagnose problems

the Driver lineup will be finalized once we have a car and have submitted our registration to Lemons.

I have a manual tranny out of my old IX... able to make it work on non-ix?

I has no driving time under my belt... just bike racing and ski racing... guess I'm not good enough to drive

... and I'm too poor to contribute thanks to the Touring anyways...

Put this thing together and I might just fly in for it. My new job keeps me traveling a lot, but one of the perks is free Southwest tickets and a month of vacation to use them. I'm sure I could convince the wife to let me head out for a long weekend of lunacy.

I don't have any big track time yet, but probably will by then. If you need a driver I'd be happy to, but for now you can put me down as a long shot.

This thread is going to need a sticky if it starts gaining steam.

    Greg,

Some things, like the details of political decisions and the making of sausage are best left as a mystery. I've sent you a PM with some thoughts as to how to come up with a LeMons car.

    Are you going to CMP?

My parts car has from what I was told a good motor. I never cranked it due to a 15 year old timing belt. The rest of the drive train is there, but the auto is bad. I do have a 5 speed, but it is spoken for at the moment. Swapping to manual will probably put this car over the $500 limit.

Jim has some good ideas on finding a car. It does not have to be pretty just make it the whole time. Actually the uglier the better, less of a chance they crush it!!

That does sound interesting. I think Jim wanted to use an i motor, but on the shortened CMP lemons track a eta motor with a 3.73 might be the ticket!!

Any more details? is this thing swiss cheesed with rust? Body rust is okay, but huge holes in frame rails is not!!

And get a video of the purchase showing you handing over only $300 to the seller. Will make for a good laugh if the judges question us.

FYI guys I went to Strictly German today and he doesn't have anything right now. I did get more bumper swap parts. I also watched an E30 tranny swap take place in just over an hour quite impressive!!
