8 Series (E31) (1991 - 1997) As the last E24 rolled off the production line in 1989, its replacement was quick on its heels to fulfill the fantasies of those looking for a touring coupe with all of the luxury, performance, and prestige of a BMW, only now with both 8 and 12 cylinder engines.

Chip will make some difference price will depend on build date of the car.
Most of the cold air intakes are not! Factory box is cold air and the stock German paper filters appear to flow better than K&N and don't screw up the AFM with a coating of oil.

Exausts that work are $$$$ The stock system is near nominal for performance but way to quiet. Cheap add ons may cost HP.

Gearing is the only way to go to get "Quicker" but even with 3.64 or 3.94 gears it is still not ever going to be a serious drag racer!!

It is way too heavy to run with the big dogs until about 60+ It should pull HARD from about 25 till it runs out of steam at 150 or so.

It does exactly what it was designed to do very well--Look Good and Cruise Fast all day!! A racer it isn't.

well im not much into street and drag racing i just like to take it up a notch every once in awhile i get a lot of punk kids on I-95. i really like the way it feels and rides now. i just wanna see if it gets a lil more peppy. exhausts are nice but i dont wanna sound like i have a coffee can stuck to my ass. Sounds not priority tho i do like a throaty sound.
anyway, do u have any links for the chip? where is my build date anyway? and how do i go about with the gearing.
Hey thanks for all ur help. no one seems to frequent this section much.

I use this chip in both my 840 and 740
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33597

It makes a noticeable difference at the bottom end . It is a Euro mapping and feels considerably faster than the Dinan. And it is a lot cheaper than either the dinan or Conforti.
The build date is on the federal label at the outer end of the drivers door and there is a cutoff build date in the 95's that changes the chip from the one I referenced.

For suspension and stereo go here and search the archives using the new beta search function at the top. There is a lot of information by owners far more knowledgeable than I. And I seem to be almost alone here most of the time.

Lurk a while, don't get into any of the STS dialogs!!

Is this enough in one place?

76 8 series Together this last weekend. 5% of the cars imported were in one place!

They were talking about a mini event for those in the Southeast over on the 8 board on Roadfly. I think somewhere around Atlanta.
There should be a "Mid Major" event somewhere on the East coast next year and the "International" 8 Fest with a goal of 100+ is being set up for Denver in 2005.

Dinan seems to be out of favor in the 8 community at the moment.
Limited availability, HIGH prices and questionable support unless you live next door were brought up.
I don't believe that the Twin -Turbo conversion has been available for a while either but there were 2 of the originals at 8-Fest.

Go here and run thru the Daily recaps--Don't get your pulse up!

As soon as I get a chance I'll wash up my Silver 840 and get a couple of shots now that it is lowered. I'll post them when I can.

Meanwhile...........
