.: Mechanically Adjustable Fan Control (Coolant Temp Sensor) - Installation Pics
Hokay, so this is actually my 3rd in a series of Bimmerfest or Bust threads..
Mechanically Adjustable Fan Control (Coolant Temp Sensor) - Installation Pics 1. Purchased Derale Part No. 16769 from American Racing Supply ![]() 2. Open the package (duh). Take note of the small foam piece in the small plastic bag. ![]() 3. Photo below is the stock photo of the package contents. All accounted for. (... but the wire is blue@#$&*) ![]() 4. The sensor goes into the inlet hose, so first, unscrew the clamp. ![]() 5. Remove the hose ![]() 6. Insert the sensor. The previously mentioned foam piece is meant to go between the capillary wire and the hose. ![]() 7. Reinstall the hose and tighten the clamp. ![]() 8. Drill a couple (or 4) holes into the sheet metal to install the bracket and the adjustable switch. ![]() 9. These are the stock wires for the electric fan (left) and the coolant temperature sensor (right). ![]() 10. The two sets of wires are connected so they need to be detached from each other so the wires for the temp sensor can reach the switch. ![]() 11. This is the connector to the diode used for the A/C - heater system. Since I have the A/C out, I decided to cut the black/white wire before the connector to have both black/white and green/brown wires at the same length. ![]() 12. Strip the wires and... ![]() 13. Attach the provided connectors to the ends of the wires... ![]() 14. Attach the connectors to the switch like so... ![]() 15. Lastly, install a knob as desired. In my case, I thought a spare fan control knob was a nice tongue-in-cheek addition. ![]()
