NP, and thanks for the feedback. Glad it worked out for you, and I'm sure they'll be some happy SP/C30 C38 owners knowing their units can be rebuilt, in lieu of $2100 for a new unit, should something happen down the road.

BTW, in the time that I last posted about this, I ordered a TT stage 2 turbo from Nick G. So I won't end up getting it rebuilt anyway . Kit is being pulled out of the car and will be for sale.

Hmmm...seems my C38 has been getting much louder recently at idle. It may be time I contact these guys and see what they can do and how quicker they can do it.

I'm looking into going FI on my MZ3. For the rebuild what kind of money was it? And for the people that are using the Rotrex what is the MTBF for everyone? As in how long have you been running your supercharger with and without problems?

Not sure. I literally just noticed it, so it may just be the blower getting older. No leaks that I can see. I need to really check it out now. Could just be the bearing starting to show their age.

I originally installed it in 06', so its been a little while now and its seen summers and winters every year since.

Just checked the site...$450 for a C38 rebuild or $250 for the parts alone. I wonder how hard it would be to DIY it ??

No instructions and you have to press the bearings. As cheap as I am, it's worth letting them do and take the risk of breaking and fixing it.

Yup. That thing sees so much heat. I'm replacing the bearings on my rear wheels right now and it is supposed to be easy with the BMW tool. Wrong. I cant even get the half shaft out of the hub on the drivers side. I would hate to be in a similar position with my blower opened up.

haha I hear ya. I always prefer to do my own work, I guess in some cases like this, you just have to give it up and pay the man.

Hmm...maybe they know of beefier bearings and I can spin it faster ....doubtful at best, but there's always hope.

I had that happen to my car (the half shaft and the hub not separating)

My mechanic banged on that thing with a 50lb sledge for hours and there was just no breaking it loose, it had welded itself together. We had to replace the entire assembly. Good luck...

Weak sauce. I'm debating taking the trailing arm out and having a machine shop press it out. I think a 50k lb press should be able to push the half shaft out.

i replaced my passenger side rear wheel bearing on my 270k mile car, and with about 30 mins of whacking away with a slide hammer rented from autozone it came right off....

I spoke with him about any upgrades/improvements and he said it's simply a rebuild of any worn parts, not a redesign, so no performance improvement unless the worn parts are causing loss of performance.

Also, I wouldn't be too concerned with idle noise. Mine has been in the car since late 04 and has been like a tea kettle for ~40k that I've been driving it. I've been thinking the rebuild will quiet this, but it still makes boost.

This is good to know, thanks for the input. If all it is, is a little extra noise, than that is fine with me. I just don't want it to seize up on me while driving.

I am going to keep my ears and eyes open for any changes and go from there.

Mine is silent. The whistle when making boost is all the noise it makes. I did have a belt squeak, but fixed that by realigning the bracket.

You may want to consider that a rebuild could extend the life of the unit. The noises may indicate that you are getting wear. Enough wear may make rebuild impossible. A rebuild now is much cheaper than a new unit later.

Mine gets a nice spool/whistle sound at around 3k rpm..normal driving.
