So, I've had this carputer setup for almost 3 years now and it's still working strong. For anyone that doesn't know, a carputer setup is taking basically a standard computer and using it in a mobile environment. This is capable of anything your computer can do. This setup can be used for mp3 playback, dvd playback, video file playback, radio, gps navigation, internet access and more. If you have other questions as to what this setup can do please PM me. Included in the setup is:
-8" 16:9 touchscreen
-VIA atx motherboard with 1.5Ghz AMD Sempron 2200+
-256mb ram
-built in audio and video
-DSATX 220W power supply
-80GB hard drive
-IDE dvd-rom for dvd playback
-USB radio shark for radio playback
-usb gps receiver and software
-usb wireless b,g receiver
-50W x 2 amp
The system is running on Windows XP using the frontend software Roadrunner. When the ignition is turned on, the systems boots from hibernate and when the key is removed, the system hibernates. This has been a powerful setup for what I wanted to do. I used the system to tune my car as well using an LC-1 and emanage connected through usb. Use it for on-screen monitoring of engine sensors or just use it to impress your friends. Please note that install will require some knowledge of electronics. Here are some pics:
windows running in the background(system will automatically boot to RoadRunner)
music player layout
night shot of the gps running
not a great shot, but you can see what the main display screen looks like
not included, but for those curious, the LC-1 monitoring software while I was checking my tune
Again, please note that some custom work will be required for install. I will provide the frame I have for the 8" lcd if you have an e36 but an install like mine will require a little body filler and paint to make it look stock. Don't let this steer you away however, the first carputer install I did was at 16.
If you have any questions please let me know.
