8 Series (E31) (1991 - 1997) As the last E24 rolled off the production line in 1989, its replacement was quick on its heels to fulfill the fantasies of those looking for a touring coupe with all of the luxury, performance, and prestige of a BMW, only now with both 8 and 12 cylinder engines.

CSi and E46 M3 photos

We took some photos of the two BMWs in our household earlier today. It's neat to compare the two cars, sort of like two different eras of design, as well as divergent goals in design. Anyway, they're both two door, four seat, front engine, RWD BMW M cars, but the similarities end there.

and a bonus shot of the CSi:

When I was young in the 60's I would have chosen the M3 and would have gone thru many gear shift handles because I would have whittled them down to nothing carving KILL notches in them!

Now that I am way older I chose the 840 because I can still blow away 95+% of the other cars on the road IF I choose to. And I get to feel all of those other sensations you get from folks staring at the car as it goes by!

It is fun to drive too! Now if it only really made me younger!

Enjoy both

Terry

Thanks if you meant mine.

I'm actually in Aloha OR so you must be fairly close. May see me in the Silver toy some day.

I was at Kuni the other day and the 8 drew everyone in the showroom to the windows!

The 850CSI is a monster for aftermarket tuning. Steve Dinan used to have a turbo package on his website that put something like 800 hp and 800 ft/lb of torque.

Everything but those funky inside brake lights on the 850 looks great.

Its clear where the M3 got some of its styling cues from.

Your cars are so sweet If you want to see some difference in design then compare the e31 to the new 6 series coming out

Umm!!! That is a little exaggeration. Dinan Stage II Twin turbo produced 528 HP and the Stage III could produce 700 HP on race gas and replaced Injectors. But the Stage III was detuned for everyday use on 93 octane at 550 HP.

We could type for a week

Do you have specific questions or problems?

The sites in my signature have a large amount of information on the 8 series including repair manuals that you can download.

You might want to start a new thread and get off the bottom of this antique one
