I too was thinking about buying this, but couldn't rationalize it in this economy. Seeing it still available and on ebay (i.e. microsoft live eligible is too tempting). Thank god it's 8% now as I don't think I could resist otherwise.

EDIT: Wait was this the same one, Frontin? This kit is 8psi...

Just a heads up to anyone...... Powerdyne superchargers are decent units for moderate boost applications (up to ~8psi), but are sometimes problematic. If you decide to bump up the boost with a smaller SC pulley, or a bigger crank pulley, you could potentially get close to the RPM limit of the supercharger. Powerdyne superchargers have an internal belt between the input shaft and the impeller shaft that can only handle so much RPM before is comes apart. I had a Powerdyne BD-11 on my E36 M3 for several months and the belt shredded twice, and I was NOT pushing it at it's limits. Powerdyne does have an updated unit that is gear driven that is called "XB-1A", that is supposed to be a great direct replacement, but I had a hard time finding one 2 years ago...

I would also do a little research about "ESS tuning". Tuning is the most important part of the supercharger system, and I have not heard of ESS having a good grasp on OBD II tuning.

I would love to buy this supercharger system, but the confidence that it would be a direct problem free bolt on is not there.........Very disappointing, cause I would friggin love to boost my 540. I love driving it, and boosting it would make it that much better.

I have had two ESS kits and one of the things that I have really appreciated about ESS has been their tuning. Top notch, completely ODBII compliant and very smooth. Now, that being said, I have no experience with the Powerdyne blowers. My kits were a Vortech blower and my currrent kit is a Lysholm twin screw. I would talk to ESS before buying this kit and see what they have to say about it and what kind of support you can get.

Back in my mustang days, I had always used Vortech. But I always tuned for moderate boost, not max hp, and never had any problems. The plan was to supercharge my car by this year but that isn't going to happen. Is there anyone on here that has had experience with BOTH (ESS/VF's Vortech)superchargers on an E39? I know thats a real long shot, but when I supercharge my 540i, I would like to get it right. It will also be configured the same...moderate boost, not max hp. IIRC, it would be like 6psi.

I was close to buying this kit from him as well. After some research, I found that the kit is missing quite a few parts. The software alone from ESS is $800. The rebuilt unit sounds amazing though.

It looks like it is missing the the ac/engine mount bracket for the supercharger. My tuning cost $600 from them with great customer service

ESS E39 540i Powerdyne SS kit on ebay

Could anyone please email or PM me the detailed/original ESS E39 540i Powerdyne SS kit install instructions and or parts list?
    Email: firebird68@gmx.net

Does anyone know the bosch injectors they use for that kit?

I talked to hans @ ESS and he said there were a couple parts missing on that kit on ebay (Engine mounting, Intake manifold backplate, Calibration circuit for the mas, Air filter and hose).

    thx

That dude was willing to sell it for $1300 BIN which allowed the use of microsoft live for an additional $200 off... who was dumb enough to bid it up over $2000 and make it live ineligible.

24lb injectors. You can modify your OEM intake manifold backplate and the calibration circuit is just a resistor in line with the yellow maf wire. Hope I was of help

Are these the red or the blue Bosch injectors?
Do you have any part number (Bosch/BMW)?
    Are they identical for 1996-1998 year E39 540i and for 1999-2003 year E39 540i?

Yellow for all E39 540i years or is there a difference over the years since the MAF changed around 1999 too?
