I'm sure I've seen this before somewhere but I cannot find it either on this forum or anywhere else. Is this a very rare 4dr cab or did someone take it upon themselves to remove the roof from a normal E36 sedan? Anyone seen one in the flesh, does it work??

and according to your link yes it is called a baur. pretty sure its just a very rare model, probably only in europe or som crap. there is actually a member on here with an e30 baur, so im sure bmw made a few e36 ones as well.

Never seen or heard about a Baur E36. Even the Baur E30 was a 2 door which didn't look as ridiculous. To the OP, I know a guy in London who has a B8 E36 coupe. Top speed around 192 mph. The best Alpina ever IMO. I wish I could buy it off him.

That's just an e36 Ti with the "California roof".
E30 Baurs are common here, but e36, not so much!

It is actually a lot more work than you would think:
The reason why Baur made this 4-door convertible is very simple: BMW wouldn't let them convert the coupe.
In total there where 310 Baur TC4 (TC1=E21, TC2=E30, TC3="Z1"-coupe) build, from 316i to 328i and 318/325tds.
Some months ago I helped selling/buying the most expensive TC4 build, a 325i Automatic. Back then, this car costed about the same as a M3 convertible.
Baur TC4 C20189-23, 325i Automatic.
Some other curious TC4:
C20274: the only 318iS TC4.
C20301: 325td Automatic in Dakargelb
C20059: 320i Automatic.

I think the concept is cool:
parcticality of 4dr + fun on a vert = good idea
however:
4 solid door tops + cheap looking soft-top = terrible asthetics.
Maybe it would look ok if they could find a way of using pillarless doors on the rear and the front, would have to be a custom job though. I've seen it before though (Peugeot 206cc does it), not with 4 doors but the middle window seal/pillar on the smaller rear quarters on some cars moves down with the window... support for the rear door might be weak though as it would just be a stumpy post??
NB: This is not something I am going to attempt... I'm just thinking out loud.
