Next Mod

Just bought my next mod.

It'll sound something like this, but a little deeper since i have resonators after the straight pipe and an intake.

The goal is it to sound like this

Hey! I got one of those too on my car.

I must say, and I am not trying to be bias, but my M5 is the best sounding BMW I've ever heard in real life.
I really should post a sound clip.

That would be quite intense, and I am up for it. If you ever head down here in the spring, we will make a nice day/afternoon of it. Some pictures, a few runs, and some clips.

I need to address a few things on my car when it comes out of hibernation, and I am all for it after that.

If that happens, I'm there.

As a passenger/videographer... haha. My e34 isn't what I'd describe as "nice sounding"

The X pipe is from germany , but came from a french M5. Bought it from a guy i know over there who wrecks M5's. And yes, i do have the Eisenmann Race muffler, with supersprint high flow resonators.

What are the advantages to an X pipe? Is it just sound or does it actually affect flow?

What size piping are you running? I deleted my resonators with race cats but piping is 2.25, was thinking of resizing to 2.5, also with Eisenmann Race.

It'll never sound like the M1 given the exhaust length, but hey!

I said it was the goal to sound like, as in similar but not the same as, the M1.

The piping is 60mm , which is like 2.25.

The benefit of an x-pipe is that it helps the engine pull in air by creating a small amount of suction in the exhaust ports to pull air into the cylinders. When you have a three into one setup like on the S38 with an x-pipe, what will happen is that when the exhaust is flowing thru the x-pipe it will in turn speed up the velocity of the exhaust that is coming down the tube. Its better described in a picture.

I believe thats the theory behind it, im sure someone (john lol) will correct me if im wrong.

The x-pipe uses pretty much the same size x-pipe section as stock, but dosent have the resistance of the cats to deal with. If you open it up to much you will have no back pressure in the exhaust, you need to have some on NA cars.

Fedex brought me a present today

As some of you were asking about the cross section of the x-pipe, its 2.25 round by about 2.2. not to big considering the factory x-pipe is 3.0 across at the wide by 2.0 round. My thinking is that they made it a little smaller to save some back pressure since the cats are gone.

Original piece

Got it out of the box. Flanges look like there gunna match up great. And the piece is stainless i believe. Has a nice ring to it when you tap it.

Even has the tranny mount flange

Factory styles flanges for resonator

Nice looking piece, great deal on it to ($350.00)

Anyone want my factory x-pipe piece ? Now that i have this im not gunna need it anymore.

so it remains as original? 6x2 of 2.25''? I will build up a 6x2 of 2.5'', and some other changes as well..... loss of lower/mediu torque, but gain in high revs....
