I'll preface this by saying I've searched this to death. If I would have just checked one or two threads, I never would have come up with this stupid question.
I am looking at a set of K1's and I am getting mixed reviews of the front fitment with 10mm spacers due to the hubcentric design of the BMW's and the narrow 10mm spacer. Some have said their wheels aren't machined to fit over the hub ring on the spacer. The "fixes" I've seen are either using a flat 10mm spacer up front or machining the lip into the wheel. I DO NOT want to machine the wheel.
There are a TON of drivers here using this set up. Is this really an issue with the 8.5" Kosei's? If so, is the standard to just use a flat 10mm spacer?
On a side note, I am serioulsy considering a wheel stud kit. After two sessions under the knife my back can't take the hassle of the lugs anymore. I figure a 75m stud with a bullet tip would be ideal with the Kosie and 10mm spacer. I was looking at the Turner studs as well as the Vorshlag. I'd prefer a bullet nosed stud, and to my knowledge Vorshlag doesn't off a bullet nose yet. RRT has a good reputation on the forum. Their website doesn't list their stud kits. Anyone know about what they run?
Thanks,
Chris
I have K1s. I used Turner Motorsports 10mm hubcentric kit. Its the best solution IMO.
Greg
So the K1's fit over the TMS 10mm spacer w/o any issue. Good to know. Thank you,
Chris
We race a 97 M3 with TC KLine Coilovers. We run the Koseis with a 5mm spacer up front, Vorslag 60mm stud kit works just fine.
We mounted them on our Z3 last week to remove the staggered setup and they fit great with NO spacers!
I didn't read the thread but one thing for sure, don't get H&R spacers.

Yea Kaiv...details. I have 15mm H&R spacers I'm gonna slap on next week.
I have ran both 5mm and 10mm Eibach spacers on my 97 m3, no issues.
you shoudn't use the rogue engineering ones on koseis. see why on their website. it's the rim, not the car or spacer.
David Ortiz
From Rogues website:
10mm and 12mm spacers require rims with chamfered hub faces. To determine if you have the appropriate wheel, compatible with these spacers, see the following pictures.Wheels found to be incompatible with these 10mm/12mm spacers, because of an insufficient rear chamfer depth, include the Kosei K1.
For wheels with insufficent rear chamfer depth, consider our new 10mm flat spacer.
From Vorshlag's website:
We have noted problems with 10mm BMW spacers used with Kosei K1s wheels, some SSR Comp wheels, and some others. On those wheels the wheel's inner hub should be re-machined to the correct (larger) chamfer, otherwise a 12mm, 15mm or thicker wheel spacer should be used (if there is adequate clearance to the fender).
Both of these companies have hubcentric spacers with what, I believe to be, the proper stock sized hub machined to the outer portion so BMW wheels fit correctly. However, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting an E36 with Kosei 8.5's. It just has me second guessing a little.
Chris
Just get the Turner hubcentric kit. You can run any wheel without worry. So far I have run 16" k1, 17" k1, m3 contours, and my stock 16" 328 wheels without issue.
Greg
The Koseis will NOT work with Rogue spacers, I don't know about others. The Kosies have a very small chamfer on the inside that interferes with some spacers.
Joe
Sorry guys, my post lacked clarity.
I meant to say, do not run H&R 10mm spacers. I had them and the area that meets the hub/center of the wheel doesn't fit the koseis.
This issue is only with the 10mm though. H&R's 15mm worked perfectly.

I dont know if this applies to H&R spacers for e36s, but I know that for VW mk4s, H&R at some point changed their 5x100 10mm spacer design from having a "straight lip" to an
"angled" lip. This angled lip created some fitment problems with some wheels, notably my RGRs. I believe they changed the spacer design because the straight lip on the 10mm was extremely brittle (I was actually using the straight lip spacers with broken off lips).
This only applies to 10mm spacers, since they need a larger chamfer to maintain structural rigidity and that doesn't match up with Kosei K1's. I run TMS 10mm spacer kit, which is a non hub-centric spacer that comes with a hub extender instead. Works perfectly...

I run my Koseis with H&R 12mm spacers.
Tried with H&R 10mm and it wont work. Tried with Vorshlag 10mm and it wont work too.
There's a thread here on this, i cant seem to find it.

I have run the TMS hub extenders and spacers with Vorshlag 60 mm studs and Kosei K1 with 245/40/17 for a couple of years.
I believe negative camber can have an effect, probably more so with 255/40/17 fronts. I run only about 3 degrees negative with TCK SA coilovers and Vorshlag plates.
I had similar issues with some early D-Force wheels that I got used. The wheels chamfer was too small for the chamfer on the 10mm spacer. I took the wheels and spacers to a local machine shop that's good with wheels and they opened up the chamfers exactly to fit the spacers. Cost me less than $100.
-m.
I use Rogue Engineering spacers 10mm with Kosei K1 wheels.
It depends on how old the Koseis are. Mine are 3 years old.
The chamfer shape of the inside wheel center bore should resemble that of any 10+mm spacer.
The Older Koseis do not have the gradual centerbore chamfer.
