I may buy some style 5 wheels off a 2000 528i. Will they fit an e36 m3? Any special needs? Is the bolt pattern the same? Offset issues?
What should I know?

It'll work, you will need
1. hubrings(74.1mm to 72.6mm)
2. strechted tires
3. the will to roll your fenders(I believe)
and I believe that is all.

Where can I get hubrings? What kind of stretching are you talking about? What's the widest I'd want to run?

I think people with 5's on e36's go with a 215 tire...
hubrings at tirerack. and stretched tires i think mean that there narrower than reccommended. like 215s on a 8 inch wide wheel
Currently looking for e24. PM me if you see anything interesting.
Also, looking for my old car. Sold it in 2014 to someone in Northern CA. He sold it shortly thereafter and doesn't remember to who. It was a bronzit '85 euro, lowered, headlight wipers/washers (that worked!), rear black spoiler, 5 speed, nutria interior (however i removed original buffalo leather interior and replaced with manual sport seats (front and rear).
Is there any way to get 245s on it without rubbing? Is it the inner or the outer fenders that will rub?

No! 245/40 X 17 is what you need and no fender rolling required. Now if you need wider tires then that's another story.
Can the 5 series wheels be fitted to a 3 series car? Yes
Is it a wise move handling wise? No
For looks it may be argued to be worth it, for performance the offset is wrong and will require the wrong tyre size to be used as well as bending precious sheet metal.
Why sacrifice performance on a performance car for a doubtful gain in looks?

My fenders are rolled already. That has zero effect on the performance.
If I can fit 225 or 235s on the car I will be fine. These wheels will be my daily drivers. I carry my track wheels/tires with me to the autox.
No one around here is running style 5s and trying to get that extra small % of performance. We are not comparing times driving to work.![]()

The ones that fill in the gap from 74.1mm to 72.6mm... wheel bore is 74.1mm and your hub is 72.6mm
