first time at the strip with the M3/4/A

so as many of you know i had an encounter with my buddy with a 96 M3/2/5 and i was able to pull him handily from a roll. with the local dyno being booked up, and knowing that trap speed shows power better, i made it out to pacific raceways tonight.

i got 6 runs in. my car has KN drop in/debaffled air box/custom magnaflow exhaust. i cannot verifiy is my car has a DINAN tranny chip, so take that into account.

my worst run was 15.239@93.96. left the ASC and on it crippled me with a 2.5 60'.

my best run was 14.712@95.89 with a 2.246 60'. i dont have a scanner but heres how the slip reads:

    R/T...124
    60'...2.246
    330...6.289
    1/8...9.501
    1/8 mph....75.01
    1000...12.330
    1/4...14.712
    mph...95.89

to my suprise even my auto has a hard time putting the power down off the launch. i power-braked it to about 2000RPM and then just hammered it. the result was wheel spin in first, and a heathly bark into second.

no matter how i launched the car, it spun first. it sounds odd but with drag radials i could easily get a 2.0 or 1.9 60' and rip off a 14.3-14.4 easy. it was about 75-80 outside and rather humid, and the car really never got a chance to cool down. it felt heatsoaked, as i sat in traffic and within 10 min made a pass down the strip.

on a cooler engine with DR's i honestly feel that it could run a 14.2 with ease.

on a fun side note, i race a 04 GTO twice he ran 14.2's@98 and i only had maybe 1-1.5 cars on me. raced my uncles trailblazer SS, its brand new and ran 14.3's@97, and just got faster everytime it ran.
    so thats that.

400hp and awd is hard to fight. there was a 5sp e36 m3 there, he was running 14.4's. he woulda been spanked by the trailblazer too.

my niece used to drag race some kind of GM turbo SUV, think it was a Typhoon. She dusted a lot of guys who thought they had fast cars. They run at Bandimere, 5000+ altitude, and turbos really kick ass there.

it was fun, the track was slick, but 14.7's is decent out of a 11yr 114k auto m3 i think.

Call Dinan and give them your VIN number and they will be able to confirm if you have a tranny chip install, thats how I found out I had a stage 1 install. Also, good numbers, cant wait to get mine out on the track.

thank you sir. alot of guys were supirsed when then looked in the window and saw it was autotragic. a few mustang guys(that were running the same times) came over to drop some compliments. whats funny is i was parked behind some decently quick integras(14.3's) and everyone walked past them to talk to me about my car. LOL BMW FTW! rofl.

    thats incorrect.

they ran a forged bottom 4.3L V6. and at the time they were the fastest GM product made. LOL those trucks are no joke, high 13's stock and 11's-10's with a few mods. they also came a in pickup version too.

Tony's correct... the Typhoon and the Cyclone are serious FI'd forged bottom ended 4.3L V6's. I would LOVE to get my digits on one of those machines!

That would work if the install was logged by a dealer, but it could have been done independent of that too.

Ran 15.1 awhile ago in a loaded convertible. Soft launch, not much wheelspin.

Haven't been back to run it again since swapping in the 5-speed manual. But will soon...

The cars are by far way better from a roll. From a dig it's embarassing.
