Looking to do a swap in an E34, what the 3 best motor choices??

I am looking to do a swap into a E34, what are the three best motor choices?

I was looking into a 2jz or maybe a 7mgte. What other conversions are out there without crazy fabrication?

thanks

1. OBD I M52
2. OBD I M52
3. OBD I M52

with intake manifold, s52 cams and tuning it is near s50 for 1/3 cost, and can take boost excellent.

There's absolutely no sense in such swap. S50B32 goes in much easier (with M50 oilpan etc etc) and produces realistically same power. Besides, S38 which makes the same power, is a straight swap.

The best swap pound for pound on the E34 is any S38 series motor...
turbo that motor and make comparable power or more compared to the 2jz or any other motor.....and the fabrication factor is virtually nil except for the turbo stuff...

My E34 powered S38 with a dual set up for my T88H turbo and my GT45 turbo.

For what it will cost you to fabricate and sit a 2j or 7m or rb into an E34 and wire it up just get a S38 and drop in direct and turbo it and save 40% of that money...

depending on what your budget is go LSX platform. Cheap and easy. Go get a 5.3 from a junk yard ($500), swap some 6.0L heads on it, LS6 cam & intake. and a turbo. The engine will be all factory parts (very available and cheap) and you'll be able to get 600-700rwhp out of reliably.
I have one in my car and were building another one for a 540 right now.

E34 M5's have S38's.
E36 M3's have S50's.

S38 is direct bolt-on, S50 is almost direct bolt on.

Look at the engine bay differences between a '93-95 525i and your 530i. The S50 swap would be a direct swap into a car that previously had a M50TU engine.

hmm...
I don't have a 93-95 525i to look at.

I know it's an inline six. Are the sub frames different?

I will need the s50 tranny? can I use a m50tu tranny? do both of these engines have the same block?

what about the s38? does that share a block with the s50 or m50? Does the s38 use the same trannies that the s50 or m50 use?

thanks!!!
