You need to push a rather stiff piece of wire like 12 or 10 gauge solid copper wire or a coathanger through the grommet on the firewall. The grommet you need is down below another grommet. The one you want has a red wire already going through it that you should be able to see.

After penetrating this grommet the wire or coathanger will come into the cabin of the car underneath the glovebox. You'll need to remove the underpanel and pull back the top part of the carpeting to find it. Then you need to either put a small hook at the end of the wire or coathanger you just used and attach the ends of the wires you will be "fishing" back through to the engine compartment. Usually taping the wires you'll be pulling back through to the coathanger is strong enough that they won't seperate as you pull them back through.

That's it!

Good luck with the install...

Question

Hi Bob,

About the Eastern guage package:
1] Can you specify guage (e.g. no grn/red color on voltmeter but plain like oil press/temp guages)?
2] Do you think an Amp guage is more informative.
3] BMP catalog says option of selecting wht or org color backlight. Do you need to specify for Eastern kit?
4] Do you need to specify which JTD dist block (i.e. I read somewhere there are different size threads on some)? If yes, which do you recommend.

Sorry for all the Q's. This is my first post so I hope this works.

Rgds,
Norm

the gauges just come in the plain color, no red or green on the voltmeter, just like the oil temp and press gauges...

you dont need to specifiy for eatern kit which backlight, it just comes with one light a belive, which is the original,

you dont need to specifiy which JTD block either, they will determine it for you based on your car most likely,

lastly, i dont know much about the amp gauges, but the voltmeter is pretty important if your running some high wattage systems, such as a sound system...or if you just want to know if your battery is doing okay...

hope this helps..

I like my voltmeter... when I have the stereo running at 1/2 to full power, i can see the voltmeter needle drop whenever the amp in the trunk needs power. I kinda knew something was up from before cause my dash lights would dim as well whenever i had the stereo running at full tilt.

You'll want to make sure you order the oil pressure gauge with the lower scale. The maximum oil pressure for a M3 is 58 psi. One gauge offered has a maximun reading of 80 or 90 psi and the other reads up to like 150 psi. Get the lower scale.

Like others have already told you, everything else is standard except for whether you want the full kit that includes the JTD oil distribution block or not. Go with the block.

Good luck!

I personally used a coat hanger to fish the wire through the firewall.

Its the most complicated part of the whole installation
