Today around 4 oclock me and my friend JW, were going to the movies. We got on 287 to get on RT 7 to go to sterling to the cinema. Well on the ramp there is a crosswalk for joggers, so I politely stop and let them coss before entering. What do I see behind me?? A brand new ///M Z3 M Roadster Vert(I think that is what it is called). Well I was like, Im not racing him, and my friend just got out of an accident a week ago, so its a NO GO. But this guy doesn't have ESP so he doesn't know. So the ramp is a windy S. Well I was going 55 (it was a 45mph ramp). Well once the ramp straighten out I see him DART over ASAP to the other lane, down shift and fly around 70, he got about 40 ft in front of me, then all hell broke lose. He started fish tailing, into my lane. Dide a 360 crashed into the guard rail, about 10 ft in front of me(I was in the right lane) he stopped( I was like .). I pulled over into the shoulder behind him. He came running out, I said "are you alright" he says "yea, its my fault, my stupidity" And ran out to clear the wreckage from the road. I sit there, and a Truck driver on the other side of the road shouts and asks if he is ok, then if I am ok. He comes back and says "none of it hit you right?" I say "no I didn't see anything hit me" He says "good, I got a phone in the car I Will call the cops" My friend says " so is it ok if we go now?" he says "yes". And off we went. I was shaking to death practicly, going 45 in the right lane...

Off to go see "driven" great movie to see after this.

After the movie , we decided to survey the wreckage on the way back, there was glass everywhere, and HUGE skid marks. I got a small piece of FiberGlass as a momento and reminder to keep it on the track.

I'm just glad I wasn't racing or I would have NAILED him.

I guess you could say I wasn't in the accident, just a witness

I was wondering if the guy posts here...Anyone near the Leesburg, Purcellville , Virginia Area???

I'm still in shock..

Wow, that was quite an experience! I'm glad you weren't involved and he was alright. It was probably a good thing you left because you never know what the officer may have thought...that the two of you were racing!

Thanks for caring and sharing what you saw.

Have you got any idea what happened that caused him to spin out like he did? That's strange...going straight at 70 mph or so and then spin like that!

OMG that is one hell of a story....

that's pretty mature of u tho to not race him... if u did and he crashed u would most likely have ended up in jail.

Glad everyone came out ok in the end!

I don't under stand why he would spin out either.

I saw the tire marks. For about 10 feet there was straight burn out marks, then all of assuden it went to the 360 curve tire burn out marks.

So I guess maybe he down shifted while moving to the left lane, then floored it. So he started spinning his tires then he lost control. Or maybe he was losing control slammed on the brakes for 10 feet then lost complete control.

I am 18 years old, and learned my first day with the vette(about 1 and half months ago) to save it for the track.
My first day I almost got reckless for doing a burn out in the parking lot. The cop ended up letting me go, cause he knew I learned my lesson.

The guy should have known that I wasn't going to run, when before the ramp there is a cross walk where people cross to continue the health/bike trail. I stopped and let people pass. That should have been a give away that I am a passive driver. Oh well Im glad noone got hurt, and I hope my shock wears off. Im still shaking a bit.

I'm impressed with your guys board. Gosh more technology, then I have ever seen. Buttons that help put pics and links in for you! Plus you guys aren't to bad either, thanks for treating me well. I have gone on other boards and been completely flamed (for what ever reason :.) Thanks again.

We still run the old UBB 547d.
We went to the high tech for a second, but it didn't work for what ever reason.

It's a shame that BMW went out like that( beautiful CAR!), its rear suspension was DEFINATLY shot. His tire/wheel was at a / angle. I'm trying to remember what the car looked like afterwards, but Im still in a state of shock. But I do remember the left rocker panel was off, the right one was crushed.

Thats all I got a look at.

I was surprised he didn't flip. If he would have flipped, he surely would have been dead. Then I would have had to stick around, see him die(just witnessing the accident is shocking for an 18 year old) then i would have a lot of explaining to do. 18 year olds with sports cars are automaticly at fault : or at least the police have that stereo type.

Count your blessings it wasn't you and that no one was hurt. It'll take a while for you to get over it...but you'll never forget it!

It sounds like you really have your head screwed on well. I'm impressed.

Take care buddy.

Tay Jay......wow...not a happy story, but at least all that is gone is an ///MZ3 and not someones life. I dont think that at that speed he could have nailed it and spun the rear tires but maybe he had a turbo or something???. Or maybe he downshifted into 2nd by mistake (instead of 4th) and that skidded the rear into oversteer. Anyway, thanks for the post, it reminds us that we shouldnt get too stupid with overpowered cars. (but I hate to say it, sometimes I get stupid)...........

Like I said before, those ///M cars are so good they can turn a "C" driver into an "A" driver overnight. The only problem comes when the driver is pushed to HIS limits (not the cars) and does something foolish. Kinda like when the 930 turbos first came out in 1976. The car was so quick and the turbo comesonjustlikethat. Many of the cars ended up in the body shop within the first week, let alone the first week. The cars abilities were far greater than the drivers' and it just turned on them and bit them on the ass.
BMW should really include a mandatory drivers' school with the purchase of any ///M car.
