im going to be changing my whole suspension soon. its completely shot. i hear my RSMs clunking in the back so i kno i got to replace those too.
my questions are.
1) is there any diffrence between OEM and aftermaket RSMs
2) if so which are the best and why
thanks,
mike
of course they are different, you've at least seen pics of them right? the aftermarket ones are normally re-enforced, some with various amounts of metal.
there are two schools of thought with RSM's that i have noticed:
those that say to use the stock and just make sure to replace on a regular basis because they are cheap and pretty easy to replace.
and there are those that get the aftermarket ones and spend the money up front.
a search for RSM limited to the E36 and M E36 subforums will give you plenty of opinions on what aftermarket mounts are the best.
--DrDubHold on let me get my laptop and read this on the toilet.
E46 M3 RSM with Z3 reinforcement plates for teh win.

I would consider Ground Control and Rogue. Both better then this alternative.

i got ground control rsm's so i could access the bolts from the bottom, instead of ripping out the carpet everytime i had to do work back there

I think I should do this, too...just because of my high mileage and the fact that I doubt it's ever been done.
Can someone post a link to the GC RSMs?
Thanks!
Yes I need to replace my RSM's as well, they are making all kinds of noises back there.
I went with e46 m3 rsm's and M roadster reinforcement plates, new gaskets too. Up front I went with e36 m3 (s52) shock tower reinforcement plates.
If you think you will ever want to take your rear shocks out in the future then I suggest getting aftermarket ones.
I hear good things about the Ground Control RSMs.
Get GC RSM's mike. its the best in the market. they are BEEFY! itll last u for the rest of ur life time. seriously.
Performance Mods: H&R Sport Spring/FK Shocks, Eurosport Intake/M50 Manifold, Eibach swaybar, SuperSprint Exhaust, UUC 8.5 lbs Flywheels and Clutch kit, X brace, Brembo slotted brakes with Axxis ultimate pads, Stainless Steel clutch and brake lines, GC shims/Rtabs, GC Shock mounts, UUC tranny mounts + Enforcers, UUC Evo 3 SSK + DSSR, And most imporant... UUC clutch stop!
Future Mods: 3.38 LSD, UUC underdrive pulleys and Shark Injector. And possibly FI... but this car is getting out of hand.
That's what I have too. They are very nice, very harsh.
Can someone please post a link to these so I can save it for a purchase in the near future?
Thanks!
I am going to order the bimmerworld RSM's for $29/pair and they come with a lifetime warranty. This is my daily driver and it will never see track time or track like driving anyways. Logun.org has a very good DIY on how to install them too!
I had always thought it was the e46 VERT RSM's that were beefier than e36 RSM's. Or maybe it was because they were cheaper, i forget which.
How about these? "Repair Shop" mounts
With a lifetime warranty you cant go wrong. Unless they break every other month.
how much the GC rsm go for? where can i get em?
