After 40k miles in two years of my ownership, completing everything I ever wanted to do with my car, I'm deciding to slowly move on to X5 world. I need to get a bimmer capable of towing, so I'm putting my beloved BMW for sale.
tons of hard work and money has been put into that car, proper maintenance having the priority. It took me almost a year to find E39 in that color combo and mechanical condition I desired, not to mention a 900 mile trip to pick it up.
it's a higher mileage car (update:165k, most of it highway miles) however please read my entire thread or you could be losing an opportunity to buy one of the nicer E39s out there, enthusiast driven and maintained. this is my daily driver, so please take a note of the frequent mileage updates. Rest assured that this car does not have any problems nor is a money pit. Besides the mods and the diff replacement, all the money went into the maintenance and fixing all well documented e39 issues. You will be hard pressed to find early e39 in such incredible mechanical condition! The one and only reason I'm selling is because I need a bigger car and I want X5!

the whole powertrain is in phenomenal condition. engine has virtually no oil consumtion (barely 1qt per 10k miles). cooling system fully redone, diff replaced, tranny fully flushed. I just had the ENTIRE suspension redone at 160k miles that included ALL new control arms, bushings, tie-rod ends, springs, shocks/struts, mounts and bump stops, all sway links, steering rack boots, Michelin Pilot sports and alignment. oil changed at 161k with mobil1 ep 5w30. handling is awesome, just like new car. M52 engine, despite popular belief will give you enough power at least 95% of the time. Auto transmission is a very convenient choice (a MUST for me). if you must have a manual, then obviously this car is not for you.
Price: I think $12grand should be right and is fully justified, given the mods/condition of the car. however don't hesitate to make me a reasonable offer. you can find a good mileage e39 for around or below $10k, but bone stock and without any maintenance history. You may go that route and end up spending 3-5grand on repairs regardless of mileage. if you're looking for a car that will ride another 100k miles instead of be seating in a shop, then this is it.

EDIT: due to my upcoming 2000 mile trip to NYC, I just had my car at the dealership (Lynch BMW in Daytona, FL) on saturday afternoon for the suspension inspection and computer 4-wheel alignment. everything checked out great, wheel alignment set to specs, suspension components retorqued.
thanks. yes I'm lurking around there too. that's how I came across BG Neo3s (sweetness) and Aurum Cantus ribbons. too bad I could not get them to fit in my car. I heard that the Dayton RS tweets are working great for you.
