Open Source ADS Interface Project

Hello,

As a companion to the openOBC project (which is NOT dead), I've decided to start an ADS interface of my own. The main goals are as follows:

1) Small footprint PCB
2) Open source (schematics, BOM, and PC board layout freely available)
3) Possibly offering kits once I prove the design (pending forum sponsorship).

This is based off a similar MAX232/74HC00 design I found floating on the web. I've improved it by adding some additional filtering, and switched to a smaller, LDO (low drop-out) voltage regulator IC that I've used in other designs.

Hopefully in proving this design, I can better understand how ADS works and finalize the D-BUS connection in the openOBC so that project can finally be completed.

Update: I just placed an order for a batch of 20 boards. If the first one proves successful, the remaining 19 may be available. I need to get with Kevlar re: forum sponsorship if I am to sell items openly on here.

Update: Boards arrived yesterday (I will post pics once I get back to the office). Everything looks great except I forgot to include R3 and R5 (the bus pull-up resistors) in the layout. I'll have to solder those in by hand after I get the rest of the board built.

Today I received the ISO9141 ICs and the rest of the parts to make the first test PCB.

I'm not sure yet. Until I can verify the design and get a solid Bill of Materials together, I can't nail down the price yet.

instead of 74HC00 can i use 74HCT00 IC's ? it's cmos/ttl level signals

everywhere on this forum you can find people asking for a USB ADS interface. well, there are some mods you can make, but is no guarantee it will work
that is , because BMW engineered their software and interface in such way that you cannot use a usb emulated serial port( i have read and searched to what other active members in this forum like M2PC and Benemorius have done), it's have to be a native one. why bother to change com port assignment , to make the usb serial port become com 1, when you can buy a crappy old laptop that has a NATIVE serial port, and use it ?? you don't need NASA power for using INPA
you are not playing games on it , you use it to program the ECU via the rs-232 protocol and interface, similar to writing a BIOS. If you are interested, RS 232 is pretty much like Morse Code.(Wiki quote >>>The current version of the standard is TIA-232-F Interface Between Data Terminal Equipment and Data Circuit-Terminating Equipment Employing Serial Binary Data Interchange, issued in 1997.<<<)
So , forget about doing useless things and concentrate to the real issues.
