Two E21 Baurs at CT Valley Chapter Show and Shine!

What does the BMW CCA Connecticut Valley Chapter 6th Annual Show and Shine (turnout about 30+ or - cars) have in common with the huge Bimmerfest 2011 (1000 + cars) that was held last May in Pasadena CA? They are tied for hosting the largest convocation of E21 Baurs in the US this year!

    TWO Baurs each!

Alfonso of Enfield, CT brought his beautiful 1978 320/6 Baur #0048 and I brought my (not so beautiful) 1982 323i Baur.

The significance here, if there is any, is that the show today in Manchester, CT produced the only two KNOWN E21 Baurs in all of New England! We recognize that for many BMW owners that qualifies as a non-event---- one owner of a late model M5 at todays show asked Afonso "What is a Baur?"--- but for those of us who are interested in the historical and preservation aspects of the car hobby, today was a great day!

I have posted a few pics and the story on my blog, so please check it out. It was a fun day. Warm welcome to Alfonso with a great Baur example!

Thanks, Tom! Cool to see two Baurs together.

By the way, I have seen badges like the one you show a pic of pop up on Ebay Germany once in a while.

I understand completely... I apologize for the late notice!

Ok, we now have 5 confirmed Baurs in the NY/New England area: Lawrence in the Hudson Valley; L8apex914 on Long Island; Afonso (my apologies for misspelling your name previously) in northern CT; ThePooleman (E30 Baur) in NH; and tomscat1 in SE CT. We also have pics of the Mystery E21 Baur in Merrick, LI, and two reports of a light blue E30 Baur in Manchester, CT, possibly owned by a woman.

There are also a number of Baurs in NJ. That is a core group, and perhaps..... The beginning of a Movement! . There are similar scattered clusters of Baurs around the country. Check out the Google map!

    Vive le Baur!

We are a Band of Baur Brothers and Sisters! On to Bimmerfest East!

I did also see one of the Baur badges that Afonso had the other day, but I don't see it up today. I think they wanted 70 bucks for it. !!!

    One Week To Bimmerfest East

T-minus one week and counting until Bimmerfest East! I see we are now up to 11 E21s registered!

Any chance any other Baur owners can make it? I have talked to most of the New York/New England folks (5 or 6 of us, including a TC2) and it appears that I am the only one who can make it.

Anyone else in the Mid-Atlantic region, or further south, or west? I know there are a few in PA, NJ, VA and NC. I hope to see you there! I am betting that Lothar Schuettler will bring his 1956 502 Baur. The Bullenstall Museum will probably be represented, but I doubt they will send their Baur, not with all the other beauties they have there. Those are worth seeing!

We had two E21 Baurs at this little show in CT, and it would be great to a have a Baur presence at a huge show like Bimmerfest! Over 1500 bimmers registered so far!

Here are some of the official pics from the CT Valley Chapter BMW CCA last July. The club news magazine (De Zeitung) arrived today, and we are pleased to see that they have made mention of 'two exceptionally rare E21 BAur 3 series cars". Here is the link to the pics of the event, and you can see the two Baurs in several of the pics. The lapisblau Baur is mine, and the beautiful silver one belongs to my friend, Afonso, who is also from CT. Afonso and I are together in several pics, since we hung out together for the afternoon. I am the bearded guy in the big brimmed white hat, and Afonso is wearing a dark baseball cap. It was a beautiful day, a great show, and we are beginning to get some notice for the Baurs, and the E21s! It's a start!

Die Zeitung is apparently available online.... but the brand new issue with the Baur pics is not up yet. This is where it should be soon:
    http://bmwccacvc.org/dzmagazine.htm

Check back soon to see the article.

Here's the original Baurspotting post on the event last July:

i can tell you there are at least 2 other e21 baurs in NE. One is a 79 that I owned until 2005, the other is (I think) an 82. Both are owned by a guy in Concord Massachusetts. I have the feeling he's not on these Boards, but he is an enthusiastic driver! He is restoring the 82 and unfortunately the 79, having now been through 3 owners since me, as become a bit of a beater....sadly. Still it is/was a nice color combo 320/6 of silver with blue/purple interior. sigh!

That is great news to hear! Thank you for the post! Do you have any further info.... i.e., the Baur plate number...anything would be helpful. We have no info on any Baurs in Concord... so these are potentially New Finds!

Can you put me in touch with this person? Perhaps contact him and give him this site:
    http://baurspotting.blogspot.com/

The main thread on Baurs here in bimmerforums:
    http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...+TC1+in+the+US

    My email:
    tom82baur@gmail.com

I would greatly appreciate ANY thing you can do to help us track down these cars. Do you have any info from your ownership of the car? The VIN, Baur #,.... any relevant history? Everything is relevant and helpful.

Was it this one? This is a 1979 320/6 that was purchased in the MA area a few years ago by a friend of mine.

    Please check this out:

    Thanks again for your post.

I am going to cross post this to this "Baur TC1 in the US" thread.... where it really belongs. We may have some new Baurs!!

I emailed tcm326 tonight, and he responded almost immediately! Thanks Charley!

The two Baurs he refers to are, in fact already known to us: Baur #917, (which tcm326 formerly owned, and I nearly bought from my friend josh L. in January 2010) was purchased by mstecker who was listed as being from Philadelphia here in bimmerforums. Mstecker also purchased a beautiful cranberry Baur (#3091) from yellowdog9, and mstecker is the guy who lives in Concord MA, not Philly, as we thought. The Google map and the Interim Status Report have been adjusted accordingly.
    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=...665,157.324219

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...hl=en_US#gid=0
We have been aware of both of these Baurs, and they are included in our count already, but we havent been able to contact mstecker to confirm their location.

Thanks to Charley, (tcm326) I hope to be able to make that contact soon.

    Thank you Charley!

Once again, we see that this is indeed a small Baur world!

BTW, it now appears that we can trace the history of Baur #917 through at least 4 owners! UPDATE: Make that 5 owners since 2001! (See Interim Status Report, linked above).

My son, the brand new dad, captured this ...err.... b'ar on the motion sensor video cam in his yard last week. This is the sorta thing that Davey Crockett, the King of the Wild Frontier, built his legend on.
