Need to refinish the outer lip on my LTW. Need opinion.

I just bought a rear LTW from a forum member and the outer lower lip has primer on it. So I need to remove the primer and polish it then clear coat it.

I was thinking of removing most of the primer with a paint scraper I guess and then sanding it with 1000 grit sandpaper till the paint is completely removed then polishing it with some kind of polisher from my local auto paint supply store. Then clear coating the entire outer lip with a solivent based clear paint.

    What do you think???

So I tried using a cheap paint striper from a local hardware store, kinda worked but I got most of the paint off with a paint scraper. The rim still has a little bit of paint on it which I plan to try and remove with a auto paint striper from autozone.

Should I sand the rims lip with 1000 grit sandpaper? Or polish the rim for the final finish before clear coat???

Also what type of polisher should I use?

I'm not familiar with refinishing wheel. Why is there primer on them? where they fixed before is it just some over spray? What you should do is put 2 8.5's in a box and send them to CA

No I got about 90% of the grey finish of the lip and the rim looks perfect. I dont know why someone would paint a perfectly good rim to match there car.

Really????? No one on this forum has ever painted and polished aluminum?

So I've come to the conclusion that I will be wet sanding the lip with 1000 grit sand paper then buffing, then clear coating. Done... thanks forum.

Hey bud, sorry I couldn't of any help, I'm really not familiar with refinishing rims, I would however really like to see how they turned out. You mind posting some pics?

(as soon as you get pics in here the thread will get all sorts of hits, replies and comments)
