When I first got my 7, took her to an indy who gave me ~$8k in repair quotes. Fixed every last one for around 1k, including other items they missed along the way.

Run away from these people...

I've been so busy but I need to get this done. Time line would be before may because thats when my son is due. I figure to check my indy thread and find someone friendly to members. My mechanic skill is probably not adequate. I think the next thing to do is get a third opinion. But yes Ryan I ran away from these people quick. They didn't want to give me full details. They just gave the quote and said its up to me. I just hate how these shops won't let you be present when they inspect. Or the very least show you the problem areas. Would they drop 3600 without seeing it for themselves?

I responded to your Indy in OC thread with:

Bavarian Autotech in Fullerton. Talk to John. Splitdog on this forum uses him. I called John and he was very reasonable. If paying in cash

he'll give you a discount.

Suggest you PM Splitdog. I called this guy John and mention that Splitdog (Jim) is a regular customer and I was quoted 800-900 parts and labor what 10 different Indys quoted between 1200-1500.

Who? OP? or my 800-900 for the blower motor and resistor? I eventually got that done for under $650 and a case of Newcastle.

Maybe we could tow the S54 over for him to take a spin it it behind the wheel. Nothing I can think of would be funnier than watching E trying to shoehorn into the Coupe, nothing.

So true, if you are going to own an E38, you must know how to work on is yourself.

Seriously, if I took my car to an unknown Indy, I would have paid alot alot alot more when I did my water pump, alt, and belts. I did it for about $350, from an indy it would have been up around $1400.

Skill is not needed, just brains, tools, eyes, and e38.org.

Re: Does this estimate look right to you?

My dad has a mechanic friend and he found the issue. I had a leaky water pump. Im so glad its not as bad as the other 2 shops made it to be. Im back driving in my 7.
