Clean CARFAX Report, No reported accidents or body repairs!!! No Mileage or odometer issues either.

I purchased this car with every intention of keeping it until the day it turned to dust. I felt immediately engaged with this car, it just feels great to drive and is very satisfying as you work the gear box through the twisties. I was going to install a M3 drivetrain but now I'm chasing another project which requires an infusion of funds.

HISTORY:3rd owner – Purchased the vehicle form Ganley (A BMW franchise) at their VW store July 2008. It was traded in on a new car. From what I remember about the ownership history the car has lived its life in Virginia, then Ohio, and now PA. I was told the car was serviced regularly at Ganley BMW by the owner that traded it in and that there were service records available. After a close visual inspection and a test drive I didn't require any further convincing and never had them dig out the file. Current owner is a Level 1 BMW Service advisor and Dinan Performance Specialist. I am also an active BMWCCA member and a fanatical BMW Enthusiast. Be assured that this ad contains full disclosure of any/all known issues and should be taken as a very accurate description of the vehicle’s current condition. Normal wear and tear on a 14 year old car with 158,500 miles is obviously expected.

    WHEELS AND TIRES:
    • Vehicle is currently sitting on stock 16” 5 spoke wheels with snow tires. Wheels are in good condition with no curb rash or damage. Rear snow tires are practically new and measure 10/32. Front snow tires have 1 season of driving on them and they measure approx. 6-7/32. They should be fine through this season at least if not another.
    • I have a set of 4 16” summer tires that came with the car. They are about half worn if I recall correctly but I haven’t looked at them for over a year. They will be included with the car if the buyer wants them.
    • I have a 17” set of non-staggered M contour wheels from an e36 ///M3 shod with Dunlop Direzza Star Spec Sport Z1 tires. I haven’t measured the tread depth but they have less than 5-6,000 miles on them. I would assume they would be good for at least another 6,000 miles. They can be negotiated at an additional cost, but will not be included with the car. One has a slight bend (still balances w/in BMW road force spec) and some slight finish peeling in some areas. I can have the bent wheel straightened and all four refinished to like new condition with a nationwide warranty at my cost of approx $300 at the buyers expense. Buyer can even pick the new wheel color if they want a color other than stock.
    EXTERIOR BODY CONDITION:
    • For a 14 year old vehicle with 158,000+ miles this car is in great shape. There is only one noticeable area of rust starting on the driver side rear quarter panel about the size of a quarter. The paint is just starting to bubble over top of it so there isn't any ugly brown rust showing.
    • The undercarriage is very clean for a car with this mileage.
    • The front bumper has a good amount of stone chips which is to be expected.
    • A previous owner scraped the right front lower corner of the bumper cover on a curb and scraped the paint in that area. The bumper could be resprayed, the bumper itself is not cracked as the scrape was very light. When this happened the bumper cover pushed up lightly on the turn signal lens in a way that pushed the very front corner (the tip) of the fender over about 1/8 of an inch. As a result, the fender does not line up with the hood 100% but just at the very front of it. It is not that bad at all but I’m in full disclosure mode.
    • There are a few minor scratches on the car but nothing that would require paintwork to repair. Just normal "wear and tear" scratches.
    • There are some small dents on a few of the body panels. None of them are major, more like small "dings" than an actual dent. I can have them removed via paintless dent repair at my cost prior to sale at the buyers expense.
    • Exterior rubber door seals and weather-stripping show signs of their age and are cracking in places. This is to be expected on a 14 year old vehicle and does not cause any issues with the car. It is still water tight, no leaks anywhere or anything like that.
    • Rear wiper still functions fine as well as the rear windshield washer
    • The car has not been in any accidents while in my possession, nor have I found any reason to think it was in an accident during my time as owner. CARFAX came back clean with no reported accidents.
    MECHANICAL CONDITION:
    • This vehicle is in exceptional mechanical condition. I basically had Inspection II physical/visual checks done every month or so. Anything that was found was fixed right away. You would have a hard time finding another e36 3 series in this condition. No expense was spared with this vehicle as I had originally intended to keep it forever as a daily driver. Since I was expecting to keep it forever I’ve stayed on top of all repairs and fixed anything that needed attention immediately without hesitation. I have no doubt that this car will see north of 250,000 miles if it continues to be taken care of. The M42 motor is known to be practically indestructible. It just runs forever if you take care of it.
    • I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere in the country. I drove it 1,400 miles on a trip in August from PA through the steep mountains in WV down to South Carolina and it never skipped a beat. The car carried both of us along with 2 weeks' worth of luggage and beach gear (chairs/umbrellas/etc.) plus a huge cooler with room to spare. Even with all the extra weight the car handled well and was quite comfortable for the trip.
    • The fuel mileage this car gets is incredible. I usually get around 400 miles to the tank here in hilly Pittsburgh. After I bought the car I drove it all the way from Cleveland to Pittsburgh on 3/8 of a tank of gas and the gas light didn't even come on before I got home. And I'm not driving it like a grandma either. This car loves to cruise at 80 MPH.
    • The A/C blows super cold. My girlfriend actually complains about how cold it is and I always have to turn it down. It was recharged w/in a month of purchase although it always blew cold air for me. I had noticed the compressor cycling on/off more often than normal so I had it recharged to try and take any strain off the compressor. It's been fine ever since.
    • No fluid leaks since the oil filter housing was recently replaced.
    • Engine and gearbox is solid, gearbox shifts smoothly with no grinding noises of any kind.
    • The only known issue with the car is the pass. Seat belt tensioner needs replaced. It has been like this since I purchased the car from Ganley. The airbag light comes on about 10% of the time after you start the car and usually goes out after a few minutes of driving. I’ve been meaning to replace it but was trying to save some $$$ for the holidays. This is an extremely common failure on all e36 and e46 cars for that matter.

    INTERIOR CONDITION:
    • The interior in this vehicle is also in great shape. I've had it professionally detailed twice since I've purchased it and it looks almost new inside afterwards. There are a few things that could use some attention but nothing major.
    • The Headliner is sagging. I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. It's not a bother up front but rear passengers will have the fabric touching their heads. Cheap temporary fix = black thumb tacks. This is very common on these cars.
    • The driver's seat has an inch of seam pulling apart on the left seat bottom leather bolster on the top area. It is otherwise in great shape as is the passenger seat. All manual adjustments work for both front seats including quick tilt access for back seat
    • The Seats are in great shape. The seat bolsters are not heavily worn or excessively cracked like most of the sport seats get as they age. Just another sign that this car was well cared for.
    • No carpet stains
    • No tears in the leather
    • Door panels in good condition
    • Carpets clean up well and have no sign of mold/mildew or bad odors
    • Anthracite (black) Headliner just like in the M3's came standard in the Club Sport. I personally love the black headliners and consider it a huge plus.
    • No cracks in the dashboard at all. It looks brand new after a detail, brand new I tell you. The interior of this car really cleans up well.
    • Removable Rear Cargo Divider included and was recently "spray dyed" to get back to black color, was faded to purple. Looks great and lift straps are still secured and fully functional.
    • Fold down rear seats make it easy to haul lots of gear in all shapes and sizes. Rear seat looks hardly used at all.
    • Power Windows both work without issue. Drivers’ regulator was replaced the day after purchase as it was making a bad noise.
    UPGRADES:
    • Headlamps were replaced by a previous owner with angel eyes and projector lenses. THEY ARE NOT XENON'S. They are much more classy and understated in appearance than most of the tacky knock offs and the halo's (angel eye's) look almost exactly like the stock ones. I'm a stickler for this area. Tackiness has no place on my vehicles.
    • I recently installed the Bilstein BTS suspension kit on the vehicle. Bilstein's web site stated this kit was specifically tuned on the harsh and notoriously bumpy Nurburgring to get the best "real world performance" benefits for the street. It's the perfect setup for someone who likes a sporty and responsive feel while maintaining an acceptable comfort level for everyday driving. This is how the car should have come from the factory. It's a point and shoot car...throw it in, hit the apex, on the power, then let the limited slip do what it does best.
    • Z3M shifter just installed 12/11/09. It feels fantastic! 30% reduction in throw. I also replaced the worn shifter bushings. The feel is very precise and does not have the "overly notchy” feeling of many aftermarket SSK's. I almost prefer it to the B&M shifter in my M3 that cost 5 times as much! It goes into first gear without any convincing like most of the SSK’s out there.
    • Alpine iDA-x100 in dash Multimedia Controller with full iPod /USB Flash Drive integration installed Nov. 2008
    • K&N Air Filter just installed Oct. 2009
    • Dinan ECU EProm installed Good for 11hp and 19 lb/ft of tq., much better throttle feel and midrange power. From Dinancars.com "Dinan Performance Engine Software unleashes more power by re-programming the fuel mixture and ignition timing parameters of the engine management system. Furthermore the software safely raises the rev-limit, giving your BMW a broader power band and greater road speed potential in each gear. Significant gains are also achieved at part throttle, making extra power available where you spend the bulk of the time driving. The top speed governor has also been eliminated, enabling the vehicle to achieve its ''natural'' top speed."
    • OEM BMW High Performance Ignition Wires installed Dec. 2009
    • OEM BMW Black Chrome exhaust tip
    • OEM BMW Smoked Tail lights, a really nice extra touch!
    • Weathertech ventshades currently installed on vehicle. Great for getting fresh air in the car or helping to keep it defrosted in the winter without feeling the wind and keeping the rain and snow out. I'm one of those people who always has the window cracked or the sunroof tilted when driving. My ears are very sensitive to the pressure inside a closed up car due to an eardrum condition I have. They are not permanent and come right off without leaving a trace in 10 seconds. They just wedge in the window track.
    • E36 ///M3 offset lower control arm bushings. These bushings have an offset mounting position which adds another -0.5 degrees of camber resulting in much better initial turn in and steering response.
As I mentioned above the only reason I am trying to sell the car is to fund another BMW project. Otherwise I would hold on to it even if I wasn’t going to drive it much. It’s a fun car with a neat history and that’s part of what I found intriguing about it. If I can’t sell it I will just hold on to it. As you can tell the car has been very well cared for and should be able to be driven for a long time to come relatively trouble free. All of the most common items that fail on this model have all been replaced in the last year and a half. Headliner and some very minor paint work could make this car super nice. I welcome any questions or pre purchase inspections that you can throw at me. This car has nothing to hide.

Asking price is $5,995 OBO. I know that's a little higher asking price than most ti's, but all of those cars would likely require $2-3,000 of repairs to get them into the condition that this car is in. I’ve seen base ti’s with similar mileage selling for $4,000 and they are not anywhere near the condition of my car. Mechanically you will not find a nicer example than this Club Sport!

I was finally able to get some pics taken. It's been 20 degrees and snowing for over a week straight, just plain nasty outside. I'm guessing the same or worse for many of you as well. Just keep in mind that the car has been outside and the roads are covered in "winter goodness", so she's not looking her best. I just wanted to get the snow off for the pics. It was not washed at all. The first few shots were taken with a foggy lens as I left my camera in the car outside. Opps! Guess that's the reason why I'm not a photographer.

Front shot, hood roundel is in good shape and not peeling. Angel eyes and projector halogen lamps. Fog lights both work fine without issue.

Here's a close up of the bubbled paint on the drivers rear 1/4. This is the only spot like this on the car that I can find.

Here's the drivers side. Panels are straight and line up great. You can also see the smoked OEM tail light. These look great and are a very tasteful mod. Also note the genuine M3 mirror, they are the real way to tell the diff. b/t a club sport and a regular sport package ti. Big plus with the mirrors. Again sorry for the winter coat on the outside, It's much cleaner now.

Rear end shot with foggy lense. There is no damage on the hatch, original hatch panel and glass. Rear bumper in good conditon with no scrapes. All these years of practice parallel parking and now I can park this compact in any spot I want. Constanza spots appear everywhere with this car! (for you Seinfeld fans)

Passenger side shot, panels are all straight, NO RUST!!

Fuel filler opening is not deformed and shows no signs of rear 1/4 panel repairs. Also more importantly there is no rust in there! As a side note, I only use Shell 93 octane as it's a top tier fuel and about the lowest ethonol content available. 91 oct. or better is req. with the Dinan chip anyways. Stock chip goes with the car as well.

Pass. side again, you can see the scrape I mentioned in the ad lower rf corner.

In this pic you can see the rf fender alignment I mentioned above. When the rf lower bumper was scraped, the bumper pushed up slightly on the fender causing the very front corner to push in about 1/8 of an in. You can see that it is hardly noticable from up close even, and I'd much rather have a fender with original vin tag instead of a BMW -R (replacement) fender. Who wouldn't?

Engine shot. Engine is very clean for it's age/mileage, was fully degreased twice since I've owned it due to the oil filter housing gskt leaking twice on me. Repair was covered under parts warranty, no more leaks after 2nd repair was done. Note the new belts, alternator, K&N Filter (yes, it's in there!), new throttle boot, new high performance bmw ignition wires, one of the new pulley's is visable, strut towers are not mushroomed or damaged, vehicle comes into factory specs alignment wise with no issues. Throttle was also cleaned when the boot was off.

Original Vin tag on front fender...yeah what did I say about not being much of a photographer??!? You can also see the oringinal "thick wire" shrink wrap on the wiring. BMW actually used much heavier gauge wiring back then. We hardly every see these old wires break. Not so true on the newer cars.

Other front fender with original vin tag.

Cluster indicated 158,929 when pics were taken. Note the service indicator, it's accurate and up to date...by my strict standards!

Alpine iDA-X100 Multimedia controller. I wired the iPod connection into the glovebox. Hook it up and forget about it. It also works with USB flash memory sticks. Displays all song/title info just as your ipod does. Also has view options with large album art shot and song title or oldschool "flip" style alarm clock view. HD radio ready, can also control remote CD player, Sat radio, and bluetooth phone module (not included). I can take this out and will take $50 off the price if the buyer just wants a single disc cd player. It's an older Kenwood unit that was in the car when I bought it. I love this thing. Works just like you're iPod with the scroll wheel. Great stuff, what you expect from Alpine.

Factory BMW rubber mats. These came out of an E46 but fit pretty well. The drivers side has the velcro retainers rigged to hold it in place. Fits fine around the pedal and everything else. A must have for any BMW!

Driver door panel in great condition. Cleans up great as you can see.

Passenger Door panel is also in great shape.

Here is the small seam pull in the drivers seat bottom. It is in the bottom of the seat, not the side bolster. The side bolster is fine, no tears and is hardly faded at all. The inside of this car was really kept well. I've been meaning to get some red thread and just close this up. Would take 20 min. tops for any novice to do.

Passenger seat back and bottom look hardly used, as does the back seat. The spots are just from water from the snow falling in the car. There was three inches on the roof when I got in! Black leather trim with red millpoint cloth to keep you in place. Not to mention some of the best sport seats ever made!!!

Just drove this car 100 miles through a snow/ice storm over the holidays with no issues. It made me realize how much I'm going to miss this car when it's gone. I'm trying to get some pics up tonight or tomorrow for everyone. Thanks again for the interest.

Great ad. I've got an offer on an 8 still waiting for possible rejection- then I may be back for a hard look. Airbag is going to be my biggest concern.. if you find time maybe get a handle on that one.. at least a diagnostic and repair cost.

Great car, great ad! I just purchased a ti, or else I'd be checking yours out. The tail lights are nice. You said they are OEM. Did you actually purcahse them from the dealer?

    Aaaat any rate...free bump!

We already know that the SRS light is just the pass. seat belt tensioner. It's not a difficult repair by any means if you know what you're doing. Since it isn't a mechanical problem it was not a priority. The light usually goes out after 2-3 min., and when the light is off that should mean the bag will still deploy. I can provide a BMW gt1 diagnostic printout for this if needed. It clearly shows the tensioner is the issue. The seat belt and buckle work fine.

Here's the part on realoem. It's $188 and 1-1.5hrs labor to install. I can get it cheaper than that.

I didn't purchase them as they were on the car when I bought it, but they were available at one time from dealers. I doubt BMW has them avail. still since it's just an accessory item. You never know though. I can't find a parts accessory catalog that goes back to the e36 anywhere. Maybe check realoem.

Yes, I would be willing to ship the car at the buyers expense assuming the transaction for the vehicle was completed. Meaning 100% paid for prior to shipping.

The car is up for sale on ebay. I've gotten quite a few offers but not quite what I need out of the car. After some discussion with other club sport owners, they seem to think this car will sell for close to the asking price and I was urged to hold off for a while longer. Now the issue is that the 135 is on the way so this car has to go asap! I cannot have both cars as I have nowhere to put another vehicle at the moment.

I could not pick up the car till mid march but would be willing to pay something to have it parked somewhere secure. I would pay by bank draft $5000 now with the balance $500 +$300 when I pick it up.
