Was Steven Culbertson a forum member (MINI driver kills four)

19 year old Steven Culbertson from Sonoma County. He apparently raced 1980s BMW with his father Steve. He ran a red light in his MINI Cooper and hit a minivan, killing the four people in the van and himself.

I'm sure someone on here knows him or his dad, at least through racing circles. And this looks like it happened RIGHT by Infineon.

Yeah, right down the street from the race track. He was going 70-90mph when he ran the stop sign. It's a real testament to MINI safety that the four people in the van died instantly, but he lived for another day.

They think the crash may have been alcohol related too.

thats what they were saying. it goes from highway speeds to stop. many fender benders, saving money and time but not saving lives

A good reason to not be traveling 70MPH through a signaled intersection. I hope said mini driver rots in hell.

I drive that intersection everyday. It's the Lakeville Hwy turnoff from 37 and it's dicey. Missed that wreck by about a half hour.

    F'n tragic.

Still waiting on the tox results. If there is any silver lining in this it's that Steven donated his organs, so at least some people are alive today because of this tragedy.

I met Steven and his Dad at a Trackmasters event about a week before the trgedy. Steven spent a lot of time in my pit, hangin out. He had a nice E30 and his Dad was a nice guy. I could tell his Dad was trying to keep him involved in something positive. Steven apparently had some issues as a lot of teens do but he was a genuinely nice kid. I enjoyed spending the day with him and his Dad (Also named Steven). I liked them both and I was floored when I heard the news. The media has completely villified Steven and NOBODY seems to care about his family. My heart goes out to ALL of the people effected by this tragedy, including Stevens father and the rest of his family. No telling what happened but the tox results won't change anything... except people can hate him more.

i crashed near that intersection 2 years 1month ago because someone had crashed 15 minutes prior and they closed down the road, I was a victim of the person in front of me slamming on their brakes when their was nothing in front of them. Collusion only happened at 10mph though

Victim of someone in front of you slamming on the brakes? I'm sorry, but that means you were following too close, too fast (albeit 10mph) and weren't paying enough attention to THEM. There is zero excuse for hitting the car in front of you. And yes, I've been at fault for something like that too, it can happen to anyone. You were not a victim, YOU were at fault. They stop, you stop, simple as that.

And yes, sucks that everyone is making this kid out to be a villain even though nobody was in the car to know what was going on. At this point nobody will know the circumstances as to why he was driving the way he was and what caused this to happen. Nothing will bring back the family or Stephen though. Sad that it had to happen, but hopefully SOMEone learns something from this.
