Looks like your bump stop took a beating. I am assuming your shocks are blown?

I doubt that it would cause uneven wear

First, how many miles on the car? If more than 60k, do you still have the stock suspension? If so, replace now and while you are having the cars suspension overhauled look at replacing your FCAB's and RTAB's! Second, a bad shock will not cause uneven tire wear. I would be looking at RTAB's and/or a bent control arm!

Agreed a hundred percent.

A bad shock causes the wheel to keep bouncing up and down and not maintain contact with the road; constant skipping causes wear, and quite quickly at that.

I've learned a worthy 'skipping' concept tonight. Thank you!

If you guys can look at the picture he provided of his rear left tire and tell me how his shock can make the inside of his tire bald and the outside not bald I am open to learning new things! I personally do not see how his bad shock is causing negative camber. Fill me in yall!

blown shocks can cause your tire to get a wavy looking tread design on your tire. so yes. replace the shocks. it will also cause you to get a vibration on your tires.

factory camber will cause just about any BMW to exhibit that inner wear pattern on rear tires

bouncing from a shock or strut will cause a cupping pattern

you can know this is a fact because i have a keyboard and a forum membership

The location that you are experencing wear (inside of the tire) is do to your camber. The amount of wear you are getting is due to the amount of toe you have. I am guessing you have a stock alignment, and that is why your tires are wearing. They are essentialy pointed inward.

Chariot, wth? Stock e36 and e46 both have rear camber/toe adjustments. e36's only have front toe adjustment, not camber, but e46's have a small amount of front camber adjustment in addition to toe. 0.2-0.5*, I forget.
