HIDs intermittent working...

Alright, I have 35w rapter HID kit installed on my car and recently they have been intermittently working. It has happened 3 times now that one of the lights won't ignite but once I turn off the car and try the next day it works fine. I also have blown a fuse once for the LH low beam but that hasn't happened again since I replaced it. I recently installed a boost gauge and tapped into the headlight switch for illumination at night and an AFR wideband which I tapped into a 10amp fuse in the fuse box for the powered mirrors. Could these be causing my issues? Should I tap the power for the gauges somewhere else? Can I rewire somehow to prevent this? Thanks.

Dave

Two words - wiring harness.

Sounds like your HIDs want a consistent power source. Spend the $25 more for a wiring harness. That whole sometimes on, sometimes not will go away.

The rapter kit comes with a wiring harness. Not really sure what you mean by this...please elaborate.

I have a set of the Raptors (35W) and the DDM 55w and the 55w are much more reliable. The Raptors will not always fire on the first try. This happens perhaps 5% of the time. Personally, I would not buy another set. I would pay more and get the DDM brand instead.

I also have a 3 or 4 year old set of Prolumens that work flawlessly. Of course I also paid over $200 for them at the time.

I recommend the raptors. I have 55w DDM ballasts and 35w Raptor ballasts as well and I don't notice any reliability difference between them. Both are very good.

I have them, and they seem to work fine. They fire on the first try every time. I've only had them since sometime this summer though.

i had raptors. they're good for the money. just be careful of the bulbs. for some reason every raptor kit i've bought, the bulbs blew out. the ballasts are real good though.

DDM isn't known for bulbs blowing out and they are warrantied anyway.

sure you didn't get any oily residue on them from your hands when installing? the oil can cause the bulbs to explode

I have the raptors and they are working as they should. ill be getting the 55w kit soon and swap my 35w's onto my high beams . Ive heard the difference between the two is the sharper or brighter outcome. I want a pure white HID kit so ill be getting 55w 5000k

Yea I think the raptors are meant for ATVs or similar.

Just make sure theyre aimed right and theyll work great!

Maybe its just maybe, but I had 4 raptor ballasts go out on me. I still decided to go w/ raptor because they're so cheap and DDM replaces them if anything goes wrong.

Well I think I jynxed myself. My light started flickering on me and now my right HID's wont light up. Would it be a ballast problem or a connection problem if it just flickers. I REALLY dont want to wait on the replacement so I hope its just a loose connection.

I had that happen to me and it was a loose ground. However, I'm not sure if that could also be a bad ballast. Just switch them up and see what happens.

Re: Intermittent headlamp

I have the same thing with an intermittent headlamp, but frst my left parking lamp kept acting up and would seem to turn on sometimes a week later, the left headlamp started dying off.

Did you get your issue fixed?

No loose connection. Ended up being a faulty ballast. Now will have to send it back to get my replacement..

Yeah...I took mine out. Sick of worrying what would light/not light when I turned the car on.
