e46 sedan build - CCTCC

Hey all,

Looks like posting projects is the "in" thing to do, so here we go!

We race in the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship, which is sorts of WC or Koni Challenge "lite" here in Canada. Very competative series, and our e36 race cars did great given that the rules were against us (we could only 2.8L ... the e46 can run 3.0L, and wider track!). We have a 10 year model rule, so the e36 race cars are for sale. For next year we're building an e46 (at least one, maybe two depending on funds). Here is the build for the new car #11.

Starting out with a flood salvaged 2000 328i. Car was in perfect condition, just water in the carpet. Got it cheap. Here is how is came to us:

And the boring gutting that you've all seen by now:

Door is nicely skinned (1 down, 3 to go!)

Ahhhh ... that's better. Nice and clean, ready fr cage work staring tomorrow

Just have to find an easy way to remove the residue from the inside ... Steve says Acetone. Anyone have a better suggestion I can try? The jey here is easy and quick ... I'm lazy like that (otherwise we'll just paint over it!).

I have heard of soaking it in brake cleaner. But I have used Goo Gone with pretty good results.

Lay down a bunch of terry cloth towels and soak it in kerosene. Let soak and wipe up. It'll take all the residue right off. Got this advice from James Clay back in 03-04 when I was stripping my brothers car

Cause the brake clean and goof off solutions aren't flammable

Arek,

I can confirm that the cage tubing is in. It's sitting on the floor at your cage builder. Good luck with the project.

Yeah ... dropped the car off this aft. I'll email you about some stuff (including the stupid subframe issues!)

Thinner works fine, if you don't remove it you will see it even if you paint over it.

LOL!!! thanks for correcting me, that`s what 12 straight hours at the office will do for you!!! BREAK!!!! dammit! ;-)

will I be back??!? mmmmm MAYBE!!!! i`ve been shopping around for an E46, but I cant seem to find one that I like, I guess I kinda raised the bar with the last one!

The only problem I have is with the rules... I mean they`re getting ridiculous. I will be talking with Eric and the CCTCC guys, but basically they need to bring it back a little cuz it`s gonna be impossible to compete unless you spend $150,000. (dog trannies, wide fenders, 3.0 engines... etc..)

call me when you have a sec..

cbilodeau@pierresjr.com

i`ll send you my cell number, leaving for Paris sunday.

Nice start... flood car? The lights work at least!!! We use Mineral Spirits and a well ventilated area. It is the BEST way we have found to remove the tar. It simply wipes right up.

Yeah, almost everything worked fine in it. The only 2 issues were the lowest seat motors were dead, and the defrost fan was one continuously, even with the key out of the ignition ... probably a corroded relay, but of course we didn't care about that. Otherwise, a perfect chassis to start with!

Couple more weeks till we get it back, then we'll start welding on all the little clamps, brackets and holders for the various interior bits.
