Which 6pt harnesses? College student budget

I've been looking from site to site trying to figure out what type of harnesses I should get but I'm not sure what to get. I was leaning towards Schroth Clubmans but I thought they were kind of unconfortable and one of my friends wasn't happy with his. These are going in my 95 M3 that will have a roll bar and Recaro Profi SPG seats. So, I'm looking for what people think are the safest, most comfortable harnesses at around $200? Willing to go a little higher in price if recommended though.

Thanks

Ge-Force harnesses are good value for the money. Discovery Parts shows 6-point camlock for $155

Your best bet is the $200 FIA rated Racequips. You can get them from Driving Impressions @ www.teamdi.com

Adam, get the Clubmans. They are what I have, and are 199 each.

I think they are offering 10% of next weekend when iRacing is going to be there at their shop. So buy them then?

G-Force 6-point camlocks are FIA rated for $155/set. They work as great as any other belt.

Yup, and polyester as well. No reason to pay more if you're on a budget.

Not a big fan of the Gforce Camlock, and I would definitely not go as far as saying they work as great as any other belts. Racequip is a Taiwanese design, similar to the Chinese Gforce, but the actual Camlock is made better. Racequips Alum adjusters are really nice too.

I like my Schroth Hybrid, and while it does take a little more effort to release the cam lock, overall comfort of the belt is much better for me personally.

You have to think about the camlock being operating in the worst case...for example you get in an accident and you break a hand/finger, could you still operate the camlock quickly?

I have the g-force belts and have no problem buckling out of them. Some times the cam lock will stick in the "open" position and you have to flip it back to buckle back in, but I've found I like this camlock over some of the other camlocks I have used.

I do have issues with the adjusters though. I find that I have to re-tighten the shoulder straps several times in a full 30 minute session. So they do tend to slip a little bit when pulled really really tight. I'd also guess that my hip straps are loosening up a little bit as well. They never get loose loose, or slip off my hans with the little winglets, but I make sure to pull the straps tight after my first lap, and then I will check them on long straight aways.

Get the eye-bolt end pieces, extra cost, as it is really hard to get the bolt through connectors at the right angle. You can't bend them like some of the schroth bolt through connectors. At least, they haven't been tested after being bent like the schroths.

Wow. Then what do you think they might do in a 50g impact? I'd either send them back to G-Force or put them in the trash. Something's not right.

If you buy an SFI-only belt, be aware of the expiration date (2 years from the punched date of mfgr). FIA belts can be cheaper in the long run (expires end of Dec on the date punched, which will be 5 years from the date of mfgr).

They dont expire if he's only doing DEs. Cheap harnesses are a PITA.

Considering that there are multiple threads on here with different people mentioning having to re-snug their belts after a lap or two, I think this is pretty common across a wide range of belt manufacturers. You have a post about three inch schroth shoulder straps coming loose enough to actually come off your hans winglets. I've never had that happen with my 3 inch g-force belts.

You might be reading a bit to much into what I'm describing as there is never any loosening that causes slack in the belts. I just like the belts to be very very tight. 50g sled test data is available.

Belts shouldn't slip. My Schroth's do not slip at all. Once cinched in, you're not moving until you release...and they've been crash tested.

+1 for the expiring quality belts for DE's over cheaper new belts. The expiration is somewhat arbitrary and not observed in DE's and you get more comfort in a quality belt...and adjusters don't slip...

A few Porsche clubs now check your belt's dates and they need to be current. I wouldn't be surprised if other clubs start doing this in the future. Sucks for racers since you can't just dump off your old belts on DE students.

I run the G-Force belts and like them, especially for the price... I will say that I too find myself tightening them, BUT... it seems to me, seeing as how I'm every bit of 260lbs, and I'm using them with stock seats... I figured it was kinda normal for a guy as big as I am moving around a bit. To clarify: I find myself cinching them down because I didn't get them tight enough in the first place.

Once I get a race seat in the car, I guess I'll find out for sure.

I'd say get the best belts you can afford... if the G-force are it, they are certainly better than some more expensive alternatives (IMHO) like some of the 4-point varieties out there.

Also... on the DE thing... PLEASE check with the club. Some DE's do in fact check dates. They may not be as strict as a race sanctioning body, but they may have their own rules (like THSCC's 5-year limitation.)

I also run the G-force 6pts. I have not had them come loose on track in the 2 years I have owned them.

One thing I don't like, and this could just be because of my setup, is the 'pull-up' option on the lap belts. It takes some time to get them set as tight as I want them. I think the 'Pull-Down' option would have been better for me (it is an option at time of order... and I ordered pull-up).
