lastly, why not just get another used daily driver?
I have been on the hunt for a nice E30 for a few weeks now, and I would like to do what you suggest.

MOE -- My GF is still looking for two cars for her daughters, and I would like to revisit that with you now offline. The timing is perfect.

What is motivating the sell?

This time it's a CEL --mixture deviation too rich; mixture deviation too lean
  1. $200 for smoke test and to swap front 02 sensors bank to bank and to pull 3 plugs (plugs I could do but was lazy.)
  2. $115 for Dealer smoke test and code read. "Bad MAF"
  3. $385 for MAF -- which may or may not solve the problem depending on whether I listen to the dealer tech (one of the best) or several guys here who know their stuff and who say MAF can/cannot affect only one bank.
  4. Independent BMW shop I thought I'd try who said there are two MAFs on an E36 M3. (I'm not using that shop.)
  5. A trick (and undocumented) wire in the MAF line that may/may not be working right.
  6. A possible DME gone bad, which I can;t replace anyway since the tune no longer available.
  7. Etc.
  8. Etc.
  9. Etc.
  10. Etc.

When you had the smoke test performed, where did it leak? How about a pressure test? They are usually better for boosted applications.

Did the fault follow the O2 sensor when it was swapped? I'm guessing not.

Sounds like its time to TTS1 it Johno. You'll make moar torques and have moar fun, and its far easier to diagnose.

There was no leak and it holds pressure too.

The fault did not follow the 02 sensor.

I am tempted with the TT S1. Also an AA system.

Nick G. bends over backwards to give excellent cusotmer support, as does Marco.

UNtil I fix the current problem I am stuck. I would not sell this to anybody before it is runing 100 percent, and if the problem is with the car (vs. the TS system) I will be in the same boat anyway.

I hate the thought of selling my system but you saw the pictures of my car and it's totaled. I should be getting the car this week and will start posting things shortly after. I know you are frustrated but you have to admit there is nothing like the power this system puts out when everything is working well! Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I hope to find another project and be back on the boards in the near future.

Sorry to hear about your car.

You are right -- Josh developed a superlative system. It feels just right on the car.

you someone DID want to revert to NA/stock. The part I dont get is the DME/tune thing.

We all sent our DME's to Josh/Conforti for modification all those years ago. So how do you go back to stock tune? My guess is you would you include the existing/modified DME you are running now as part of the TS kit you are selling then buy a different stock one for your car after its had the goodies removed?

Does it use the stock MAF? If so, does anyone local want to swap with you for a few days?

Honestly, given that you are not a DIY type of guy, I would sell the kit/car and go with something else that satifies your desires in OE form. It sounds like you need something you can drop off at the dealership, get a loaner, etc.

I think it is the nature of the aftermarket FI beast to have to tinker and trouble-shoot with some frequency. To the extent you have not had to do this for the last 40k miles is a tribute to the strength of the ES kit.

VALID, very.

Besides four TS oil changes (25,000 miles),
my post maf boot assy (coming unglued)
has been the only problem.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I actually do ALL of my own work on the car -- it's when I get into territory where there is no service information available that I get concerned.

I would have ZERO hesitation getting a kit from Nick G, Mike McCoy or Marco.

i would guess around $6-7k, it depends. i am going to sell my twinscrew kit soon with 80k+ miles on it and hardly ever any problems. i hope to recoup that amount.
